Holly and I recently returned from our all too brief escape from the winter weather at home here in Maryland.  We did manage to get in two of the three shoots we had planned to attend, the Roughshod Raiders in Gainesville, FL on Saturday, 04 Jan 2025 (Home of the 2025 FL State Championship - The Last Stand), and the Hernando County Regulators on Sunday, 05 Jan 2025.  I don’t know if it was being tired from the journey south or the oddity of shooting smokeless and being able to see the targets, but my head was just not in the game at the Raiders match.  I think some of the spotters are still trying to figure out what the heck I did on some of those stages!  I did manage to pull it back together at Hernando, but did have two misses.  So much for having a clean season!  :P

We had also planned to shoot with the Fort White Cavalry on Saturday, 11 Jan 2025, but with the prediction of ice storms across the Carolina's, and 6" of snow waiting for me at home on the driveway, we erred on the side of caution and headed home early on Wednesday morning.  Regardless, we had a good time, and look forward to our return in April for The Last Stand!

We made it home safely and without issue, to a cold winter wonderland.  Thankfully our youngest son, Pyro Dex, went by the house and shoveled a slot for us so we could get the Prius off the street, which was much appreciated as there is no ground clearance in a Prius!  I waited until the morning to shovel the rest, in the 25 degree Sunshine, and finished just in time for the follow-up snow storm.  And, with the first measurable snowfall on the ground at Home, it's time to switch to my Winter Avatar!

And now we wait for the next round of snow coming this weekend.  The last two rounds are still on the ground because the frigid cold temperatures have turned everything into a solid block of ice on the ranges.  The following two pictures were taken 6 days apart.  It's a little better now, because we had a slight warming spell, but we also have have another 3-6" coming in this weekend.  I am thinking of starting a betting pool to see if the ranges will be clear in time for our first shoot on March 8th, 2025. :P

One of these days, in the not too distant future, Holli and I plan to do that "Snowbird Thing" and just stay in Florida from New Years Day until the end of March (or the conclusion of the Florida State Championship, whichever is later!  I want to be measuring "Weather Events" like this...

It's not me, it's Holli.  I want her done NOW, but there are multiple reasons why she is not ready yet, but she is close.  She has "100 Mondays" left, or at least that's what I tell her, every Monday.  I keep looking for one of these in antique stores or thrift shops, and if I find one, I plan to rework it so it counts down, not up.  Then, every Monday, I will pull the chain...

As for me, I have been "un-gainfully" employed since 2014, and not working full time since about 2007.  I did volunteer work as the Treasurer for a Non-Profit for 13 years plus two additional years on the BOD, ran lots of Cowboy Matches both of my home clubs, and spent much of the last 15 years doing "Parental Healthcare" for my parents and F-I-L. and I still doing the books for Holli's office.  At the moment, my biggest project is battling to close a bunch of estates, 4 in total, my Mom, Dad, F-I-L, and my Aunt.  Sometimes I think I should just do my own now and get it over with!

The next two years, assuming I survive them (which is always a matter of speculation - someone should start a pool :P), are the clean up years in preparation for Holli's full retirement.  Then we will winter in Florida until we either die or decide to move out of Maryland to somewhere else, likely Florida, but Tennessee and the Carolina's also have an attraction.  Time (assuming the good Lord wills that I have more) will tell.  He's kept me alive this long, through events that would have killed a lot of folks, so I guess He still has a job for me that I have yet to finish.
