I was wondering why they didn't make a phone recharger that took batteries. They used to. So I did a search. And they do. Runs off four double As. Alkaline deviled As, only.

good one , i liked that ,

interesting that tonight they did a TV news expose on batteries - the button ones , seems there are 57k deaths attributed to them every year , lots of ingestion ......i dont get thay but hey what do i know

Not very common due to a shortage of "deviled As". :P

98% of statistics are made up.

So a one and a half volt double A lithium is not really one and a half volts?

No battery is 1.5V all the time. Lithium batteries are by nature 3+V. It is only by dumbing down the Chemicals that they can be made 1.5 and that is not for their lifetime.

A manufacturer wants to promise that his product will work but he can specify the circumstances that he will guarantee.  For him lithium is a wildcard. Better to just say no than to list the cases that work.

Quote

Battery types
  • Alkaline: A disposable battery with a nominal voltage of 1.5 volts

  • Zinc-carbon: A disposable battery with a nominal voltage of 1.4 to 1.7 volts

  • Lead-acid: A rechargeable battery with a nominal voltage of 12 volts

  • Li-ion: A rechargeable battery with a nominal voltage of 3.7 volts

  • Lithium titanate: A lithium-ion battery with a nominal voltage of 2.40 volts

  • LiFePO4: A lithium-ion battery with a voltage that can be 12 volts, 24 volts, or 48 volts

Chart is a little misleading.  Some battery types it describes the voltage of the individual cell and in others like the Lead-Acid and LiFePo4 it is describing the voltage of a bank of cells.

My Chevy still has a two cigarette lighters and I have  plug in chargers that I use to charge / recharge / top of my flip phone and a whole herd of other things.

Very expensive.  IIRC they were less than $10.00 each at a grocery store.

Some electronics are VERY voltage specific. Alkaline aa's are 1.5 volts. While lithium aa's are more like 1.8v.

Alkaline have a discharge profile that is a steady curve while lithium tends to run mostly flat until it falls off like a cliff.

I have a scope that won't boot up with lithium but put some copper tops in it no issues.

Per the Poison Control Center there have been 71 deaths between 1977 and 2022

On average, there are about 3500 cases of children ingesting button batteries recorded each  year.
