Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted January 15 Posted January 15 (edited) Ten years ago when we moved here there were hundreds of mated pairs of "our" eagles at some of the lakes near here, Lynx Lake in particular, maybe six miles from my place. I have had three in my yard just sitting there scouting out pets for lunch. A few years ago they started to vanish due to a lot of human "who gives a damn" things, and bad droughts (also human caused? I don't know, but hat sure got the blame from a lot of politicians and other assorted idiots.) omI didn't see any this last year. In my nearly 38 years in California I only saw two, both way up in the northern end of the state. Saw condors up there, too and one in the hills over north east near Victorville. Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Came here to hatch the kiddies, but they moved on as soon as the younguns could fly...I think. I hope they come back. Nothing is quite as majestic as seeing 400-600, or more, bald eagles in a few acres all around a beautiful lake, just doing what eagles do. We weren't allowed to get very close to them but a real good telescope sure does bring them close. 2 Quote

In all my travels, camping and hunting trips I never saw one Condor. I never met a Park or Forest Ranger that ever saw one. I must admit I never spent much time around Victorville. 1 Quote
Rip Snorter Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Lots of Eagles here in MT and I have lots of photos. The only Condor I saw outside of a Zoo was a roadkill visiting in California as a boy. I had a primary feather for a very long time - no idea where it went. Quote

The one by Victorville was too far away to see for sure, but a Victorvillian told me it was. I tried to get closer but lost sight of it in a couple of minutes.I I've never seen a Golden Eagle. We have owls and hawks of one kind or another, including peregrine falcons ( You have to look fast. They are allegedly the fastest animal on Earth) Quote
Eyesa Horg Posted January 16 Posted January 16 We have a mating pair of Peregrines in town on the cliffs every year for as long as I've lived here. I've never seen them. They close the area to all humans during the nesting season. The cliff overlooks the Interstate. Quote
