I sent Hodgdon an e-mail asking about, mentioning how people are seeing it Australia. I got a response saying that it's an "active SKU" but that they have not been able to source any and hope to get it back on the market soon. I am sad to say that I think it's been discontinued, but they don't wanna admit it. i was thinking he had found a new one on a shelf somewhere and didnt tell us where .....but really i suspected it to be older [owder that perhaps was not stored well ? that or temp affects on it , i try to give most folks credit for good QC in their habits and equipment , i suppose he might have primer issues tho , Quote
Oak Ridge Regulator Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Used LOTS of trail boss in 38 and 45 colt, only thing I noticed was my powder measure on my hornady would never throw better than + or - .3 grains on 5 stages even with a vibrator on the powder reserve, if you ran the minimum or below you could easily get those exact effects on my press so I always ran a little above min loads, never want to chance a squib. Seen to many folks plug up guns 1 Quote

It's so consistent, that I no long have a powder check and have never had a squib failure due to lack of powder. It is temp. sensitive in cold weather I have found (maybe freezing and below) , but rarely ever shoot when it's that cold anymore. Something is not right with the setup or dispenser. Agree, I've used it, (when we could get it) ever since it came out. 2.9 grains with a 125 bullet for pistol and same charge for rifle but a 158 TC bullet. Never ever had an issue, have never used a powder check thing. I'd say you got a problem with your loader. It's not the powder. Edited January 16 by Jackaroo, # 29989 1 Quote
Longfoot Posted January 16 Posted January 16 One thing that has been asked, or offered: What is the history of this Trail Boss? TB was out of production for a couple years while ADI went through their double base to single base conversions. I'm not sure if its back yet. But, if his supply has been sourced from a gun show, or, been open for a while, there may have been some degradation. Knowing the history of powder or primers can sometimes explain their inconsistent behaviour. I had a volume of primers from a pard I know to be conscientious, but, by some unknown storage condition had become unreliable despite all appearances. Due to too many inconsistent ignitions they ended up in the bin. Quote
JohnWesleyHardin Posted January 17 Posted January 17 I shot trial boss for years and never had an issue with it. I switched to titegroup when it wasn't available. I see no reason to switch back. I don't want to worry about availability issues. 1 Quote
Jackaroo, # 29989 Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Trail Boss is being manufactured now, be on the lookout for it or better still just go and place a back order with your dealer, you'll eventually get it. Back orders here down under are slowly being filled. 1 Quote
