SASS Family:

With a heavy heart, I'm writing to let you know that our fellow SASS member, Major Art Tillery, SASS #87441 was killed in a car accident in Kansas this morning.

A SASS member for 15 years, Major Art Tillery was a "young'n" in SASS by comparison- joining at the ripe age of 30 and was a Classic Cowboy- both in the category he shot at SASS matches and in the way he treated his fellow man. A member of the Magnificent Seven, he has been a big part of the surge in Classic Cowboy shooters in recent years. He was a true cowboy, and loved sharing his time with others in our sport.

Please take a moment and lift his family and friends in prayer. Such a tragedy.

Vaya Con Dios, Travis. You will be missed.

In respect,

Misty Moonshine

Prayers up for family & friends.  I never had a chance to meet him, but always enjoyed his posts on the Wire and his Classic Cowboy spirit.  A sad loss to SASS.

Oh, no! This is such sad news! I always enjoyed his infectious enthusiasm for Classic Cowboy and I had the great pleasure of meeting him and shaking his hand at Land Run 2022.

My heartfelt condolences to his family. May our pard Major Art Tilley rest in eternal Peace.

In the brief couple years that I've known him, I'm proud to have called Major a friend. He carried the torch to promote Classic Cowboy. He always wore a smile. He will be greatly missed. Condolences to his family.

Although we had never met, I always enjoyed reading his post on this Wire.  He was a great Wire Pard.

No doubt, he will be missed.

Shocking and sad news.

He was a good man and great friend....one to "ride the river" with...

R.I.P. Travis

May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be always at your back, and may you be 3 days in Heaven before the devil knows you're gone..

It was nice to meet him at Land Run 2024 and finally put a face to the name.  This is such sad news about someone that seemed to always have a smile on his face.

Major was always in a good mood and just enjoyed life. He will for sure be missed not only by his home club but many more people that he crossed paths with. Till we meet again my friend.

Major was my good friend and travelin' buddy for many years. We came in SASS about the same time and hit it off quickly. He was much more than a friend. He had become affectionately, my little brother. His heart was full. He loved this game, his family and his girlfriend, and his dogs (Travis was a huge animal lover). He was indeed one to ride the river with and my travels with him were better because of him being there. He had a passion for this game, for this life and for everything that matters. He will be missed.

Love ya, little brother. Rest in Peace.

When folks ask why you do cowboy action shooting and you explain the group of fine people you get blessed with meeting at these events.  Major was the epitome of that statement.  He loved the game beyond the competition.  He embraced the people and promoted the sport, all the while leading by example on how to be a cowboy and ambassador to the meaning of life. Thank you for sharing your time with us and we will miss you.

Both myself and Travelin' Travis have been in a fog all day. We were Ma and Pa to Major. He was one of our "sons" in SASS. I joined this family by marriage. Major accepted me with a great smile and lots of love. He was a joy to be around. Even when I shot bad, he saw the joy in the camaraderie, and made me feel like a champion in his eyes. He was an old soul.

I’m so shocked to read this. I had the pleasure of being on a posse with Major at Land Run 2024. I really enjoyed shooting with him and was looking forward to seeing him again at future matches.  We sure did lose a good one. My condolences to the family.
