Go to the link in the above or below post that Flat Top posted. Website was and still is crashed.

Went right through with the link.

I'm glad I saw Maverick's post. The link worked flawlessly and I got my email confirmation within about 60 seconds after clicking "send".

Yeah, it has crashed due to volume.  Use the link Texas Maverick posted...

You are right, that link works fine.

I'm beginning to think that everyone figured you would have to go thru their website rather than a link posted on the Wire...

over 200 registered in the first hour. Web site can't handle that kind of load.

Ah, the problems that happen when a large amount of heavy-processing traffic (like electronic payment) tries to hit a non-commercial web site that has not been built for high traffic, just because the club decides to do a "Land Run" (all folks stampede at once to get to the resource) sign-up technique.  Aptly named, BTW.

Could be why EOT and Bordertown still use the two-step process of publishing the registration form at a given time, then having users MAIL IN the completed form.   No load really gets put on the host web site, but instead on the post office, which is staffed for large volumes (of a thousand applications) coming in.  And it prevents the "rushed" completion of applications and forgetting to mark the Wild Bunch match on the form (see another thread) because shooters are trying to get registered "by rushing their work".

good luck, GJ

I can't say that this actually happened but I was trying to get on the website starting ten minutes before one. When the clock hit one and I couldn't get on, so I immediately checked the Wire and saw Okie's post with the link. I clicked on it and was immediately connected with the registration site. I was registered, paid and off in

less than 5 minutes. I kind of thought that they might have temporarily shut down their website and directed people to the link. No one said that they had trouble with that link. This is 100% speculation on my part. YMMV

I'm pretty sure the online registration puts the registration info into their match program so they do not have to hand enter that info.  Paper entries would have to be hand entered into the match program which could be time consumming for the club.

So, is it better to serve the 800 or so shooters, or a staff person running the match?

The EOT I attended was online registration and not a big deal. Registering for Land Run today was not a big deal once I had the correct link.

Given the choice I’ll register online and pay with a credit card EVERY time.

Guess that depends on whether you’re a single shooter or the one having to enter all of the data.

With current technology, there’s little reason not to employ on-line registration.  Hundreds of shooters crashing the site is not the fault of the match organizers.  It’d help immensely if shooters could relax a bit and not all rush to register at once.  Using the correct link would help as well.

I’ll take on-line registration any day.  Relying on the mail these days is unwise.  The St. Louis USPS is terrible!

Thinking to the future, why not use PractiScore? Works for all shoot sizes, from local clubs to national events.

Hello All,

Just for the sake of clarification, for those who don't know. We have 100 plus RV sites with electricity and water. The RV sites sell out on the first day. If we use mail in registration, we have no way of knowing who signed up for a spot first. EOT does not have to deal with RV spots since that is handled by the state. We will have between 500 and 600 registered by the end of the day and confirmation letters will be sent soon. If we were doing mail in registration, registration forms sent the first day would still be arriving a week from now. I believe the vast majority of shooters prefer registering online and knowing that their registration was received.

Well, sounds like the on-line payment processor was very slow.  If you have no control over the reliability and responsiveness of that function, then you could separate the payment processing (which is not a time-critical function, as long as you get the money in the next week or so, who really is hurt by a delay getting the credit card charge done?) from the match reservation and the RV slot request.   Then folks could be referred to the payment processor with a link to hit at their leisure.  If they ignore paying, after some amount of days you have an automated registration "cancellation" (or even a manual email telling the shooter - sorry, no payment received by deadline).

Think of where the problem spots are in the process and fix - that's how improvement happens.  GJ

I for one, certainly hope they don’t! I like to see my score written down and initial it before I leave the stage. I may be computer challenged but going to Practiscore for match results is a pain.

I registered two people and paid by credit card. I was online a total of maybe 5 minutes max and I am the world's slowest typist. Their registration procedure is just fine.

I guess we must be special. We registered for EOT on line and paid online. No problem, no "two step".

Glad things mostly worked after the initial rush.!

But, a successful registration is not a SPECIAL event.  It would have been SPECIAL if the site and the form and the instructions all had been distributed well, described well and executed well the first day.  A success story from a couple of shooters who registered (especially if they registered after the big rush) is not really news.  It is what all customers SHOULD expect from a major event.   good luck, GJ
