I have no idea, but there is a serious dearth of pictures in your post.

I bought one in 2013, 44-40 also. Sage Creek Gus has an original he and his dad rebuilt, and these two are the only ones I've ever seen in person. I've read there was only one run made by Uberti, and they were poor sellers so they never made any more. But I've heard otherwise too, so...

That's because I still haven't mastered the ritual needed to post them.  :(

I  decided I wanted one and put an ad in the SASS "want to buy" site.  I figured it would take a long time and might come for someplace far away.  Two days later I got a call from 15 miles away and from a man I've known for ages.

He brought it by a few days later, I loved it, the price was right, we went to the bank for the money, and went to lunch.

I'll shoot it this week.

Thanks to Injun Ryder for making this far easier than I'd hoped for.  I'm looking forward to lunch again soon.

Now if I could find Spencer in .44-40 at a reasonable price.....and another Whitney-Burgess, a Whitney-Kennedy with an S lever, and a Whitney-Scharf to replace the guns stolen from me lo those many years ago, I'd be happy.

I "need" them like I need the mumps, but what can I say: I just like lever action rifles.

Forty - I gave you the Chronicle article mentioned above. I will download some other information that I have on the Burgess on a memory stick (USB) and give it to you on Wednesday.

As for other information:

1) I sighted the rifle in from a rest and it is dead on at approximately 30 yards.

2) It is not a speed rifle. If levered too fast, the cartridge case may stick in the top of the receiver. If levered at a moderate pace, it works fine.

3) As I mentioned (and in the Chronicle article), if disassembling, watch out for the small steel ball and the spring in the lever. They are on the left side. (Ball is 0.138, spring is 0.130 x 0.335). During reassembly, use a little grease to help hold these parts in place.

4) Enjoy it!

Yeah, I got all that, but I want more.  This rifle is way different than any other I ever owned.

Where were we going for lunch? (My sad old memory failed me again.)

Also.,would you bring your Schofield with you?  I'd like to do a side by side comparison with my First Model American.

See you in a couple of days.  Thanks again.

My understanding is that when Colt came out with this rifle, a Winchester representative visited Colt with a single action revolver they were going to manufacture in competition to Colt’s SAA and Colt stopped production. Not sure if the story is true, but I never saw a picture of the pistol.

Look around.  There are some pics out there of several pistols, not just one..  The story is generally considered factual.
