Being that I have type 2 diabetes and irregular heartbeat, they kept me overnight at the hospital to rule out stroke (no stroke). Vertigo is one of those things you can't fully explain to someone who has never had it. It is debilitating. feels like you just got off one of those carnival rides that spin you around so fast you puke. I had been sick with this seasonal cold for the last two weeks and got an inner ear infection. Anyone else had to deal with vertigo? what helped ease the dizziness? I still have it to a much lesser degree. Quote
Rip Snorter Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Mine not as bad as you describe, but on and off for decades - no medical test of many has found the cause. When it is bad, sleep sitting up in your favorite chair -. otherwise two pillows. When is is mild, shake your head briskly on arising. Some say seasickness pills help. You can learn to live with it. Blackwater 53393 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Had it so bad, several years ago, that I was nauseous off and on for a couple of days. Dr. prescribed dramamine for the nausea and after a few days it finally passed. What meds are you taking for the diabetes?? Many of those meds are known to cause dizziness. I take my diabetic meds at night because they sometimes cause a little dizziness if I take them in the morning, this with my doctor’s approval. The inner ear thing is probably the most likely culprit. You should see improvement as the infection subsides. While my symptoms were at their worst, any kind of motion at all would have my head spinning! It was an adventure to roll over in bed! 2 1 Quote

watab kid Posted January 12 Posted January 12 mine is not as bad as you describe either , but as ive aged anytime i get off the ground a bit i get it and sometimes in early morning i have it , i think it most likely relates to the severe ear infections i had as a kid , as well as the older age , im at the point that i could not stand on one foot to pass a sobriety test stone cold sober , much like my eyesight and hearing , this sucks , 1 1 Quote

Dawg Hair, SASS #29557 Posted January 12 Posted January 12 Yes, several times in my much younger years. It turned out to be caused by a blockage of the ear "drains". These minute tubes filled with liquid which made the tiny hairs "cilia" in the ear canals to essentially lie down. This in turn causes a total loss of balance. I remember my father-in-law driving me to the hospital and doing about 30 mph and me screaming at him to slow down. Not a pleasant sensation. I eventually stoped suffering from this condition. Quote

The worst it hit me was when we were sitting in a bank going over home loan paperwork and I literally fell out of my chair and could not get up. I felt like I had been drugged. It was an inner ear issue and the doctor was pretty sure my Eustachian Tude for my left ear was clogged. He prescribed a strong decongestant. When I went to the pharmacy I also purchased motion sickness medication containing Meclizine. This stuff works great for me if I have a concussion. You can buy Meclizine tablets in 12.5 & 25mg tablets. Which is funny and not funny at the same time. After two days in the hospital, they sent me home and all has been well ever since. But I now take medication every day. 2 Quote

Just as I pulled forward and was stopping in a nose in parking place the a car to my side simultaneously pulled out a little faster then most people will do. It gave me the sensation that I was still rolling forward even though I had stopped. I've had it happen before but this one was so perfectly timed it really got me. 1 Quote

Messed up depth perception can cause vertigo. 1 Quote
