I wonder if painting the face of a guitar will change the sound?

Once upon a time I seem to recall reading that one of the reasons the Stradivarius violin sounds so good is because of the varnish formula he used.

If that's true, then it seems to stand to reason that if I were to take my guitar and put a coat of paint on it it would vibrate differently, and therefore sound differently.

Make sense?

Never saw Ricky Nelson in any other movie (had 2 tickets to his concert on the day he died) but he flat nailed the part of Colorado in Rio Bravo.  One of my favorite western movies, right up there with El Dorado, the original Magnificent Seven, Silverado with all its flaws, and Valdez is Coming.

One of the many many things that I like about that movie.

There's a scene where Colorado is standing outside the saloon, rolling a cigarette. John T stops to bum some tobacco - Dude's shaky hands has caused him to spill all of John T's tobacco all over the floor. And to give him two hands-free to roll his cigarette he just casually tucks his rifle between his upper arm and his chest. Where it is extremely apparent that it is cocked.

And Colorado asks, "You always carry that carbon cocked?"

Not carbEYEn or carbEEn, which is the major argument about how to pronounce that word. Carbon, like carbon paper.

I’ve always liked the way he portrayed Colorado as a no-nonsense young fella, wiser beyond his years, who earned John T’s respect early on.

Rio Bravo and El Dorado are the same movie. But Rio Lobo? No. The only thing it has in common with the other two is the walk down prisoner exchange.

That's like saying that Bullitt and The French Connection are the same movie, because they've got a car chase.

Picknitter!!!

I'm not complaining. I like it. That's what I said in the first paragraph - one of the things I like.

I just never heard anyone else say that. I hear both other pronunciations, but I've never heard anyone call it a carbon before or since.

i found both dean and ricky enjoyable and the singing fun in the film but i felt it contrived to the story , still they were great singers

The song "My Rifle, My Pony, and Me" was fine, but that thing they did after that did NOT fit the movie.

I take it that your complaint is that Cindy Cindy had not been written yet when that movie was taking place?

In Comancheros Duke and Lee Marvin were singing Pretty Red Wing. The movie was taking place in the 1840s. Red Wing was written in 1907.

That probably didn't matter to anyone except historians.

Which Thing do you refer to please ? there were quite a few odd things in that movie - leaving dean at the entry to town without backup for one ,

The part that I found hard to believe in that scene was that Duke just stood there grinning. I believe that, in reality, if there was four guys in the room and one was singing a song that everybody knew the chorus to, all four of them would be singing "get along home Cindy Cindy". I can see Ricky being the only one singing the verse, but when Dino and Walter joined in on the course, I believe Duke would have also.

Even if his voice was as bad as whoever the hell it was a dubbed him with in Singing Sandy, he would have joined in.

The melody of "My Rifle, My Pony, and Me" is the same as "Settle Down", Dimitri Tiompkin's soundtrack theme for "Red River".

And even though we have the DVDs of them, we STILL stop and watch whenever they're on.

It was just on two nights ago. And yes, we watched it again.

“I’m lookin’ at uh . . . tin star withuh . . . drunk pinned on it.”

Of the three movies, El Dorado had the best lines IMHO.
