I bought one about 35 years ago. Recoil is a little stout, but not uncomfortable. Never shot it beyond 100 yards. I could hold about 2" at that range. I let one of my brothers borrow it for a few years and just recently got it back. It needs some work. Somehow the barrel band screw came out and he lost it and the sling swivel, just replaced it with a machine screw and square nut. He duct taped a small towel on the butt as a recoil pad, so there's duct tape adhesive on the stock. And the stock is loose. Once I stop being irritated every time I look at it I'll clean it up as best I can. Not having any luck finding the proper screw for the barrel band. 3 3 Quote
Michigan Slim Posted January 6 Posted January 6 (edited) I shot one once. I'm not a heavy guy. It felt like someone sank an axe into my shoulder. Edited January 6 by Michigan Slim 2 Quote

My brother shot it better than I did so I gave it to him. He still has it but rarely shoots it. 3 Quote
Michigan Slim Posted January 6 Posted January 6 I have a ton of ammo from when it was cheap. Need to get my No. 4 out. 3 Quote
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 It was my first centre fire rifle. It was sporterized, and came from the Hudson Bay Store in Edmonton. I was 12 or 13. (Birthday/Christmas gift - My birthday is Dec. 25) Lots of them in Canada and they were very popular for decades. Sadly, most were sporterized and only a few were left in military configuration. Took a few deer with that rifle, while hunting with my Father. 5 1 Quote

Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted January 6 Posted January 6 (edited) Bought one from Sears store in Logan, Utah about 1960. They had ton of surplus guns and gear at the time. I think I gave about $10.00 for it and another t$10.00 got a bayonet, sling, and some ammo. It waas in good shape, but not great shape. I shot up the ammo and sold the gun within a week. It just wasn't right for me but my friend liked it, so he got it. Edited January 6 by Forty Rod SASS 3935 3 Quote

A knowledgeable gent tapped me on the shoulder and quietly clued me in. I saw him later at the Concession Stand and bought him a beer. I never understood why people do that crap. I read an article in the Shotgun News that outlined how to spot fake military signs. I read it around the time I was researching these M1 Garand “Tankers”. I saw one and wanted one. The lesson learned on the jungle Carbines prompted me to do my due diligence. I have to admit to calling out sneaky military gun salesmen using what I learned from the Shotgun News. I despise Sheisters. My old man was a Sheister. I hate that ****! 3 Quote

There are hundreds of bogus ones on the market which are made by cutting down and modifying a No 4. Even the bayonets go for big bucks! 2 Quote
Tex Jones, SASS 2263 Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Many years ago, Macy's in New York brought in a bunch of Enfield Carbines (when one could still sell rifles to the general public without a permit requirement). I saw the ad in the paper and my uncle sent one of his employees with me to buy one, as I wasn't old enough. I took that rifle apart many times, lost a few parts but replaced them when I found an outfit in PA that sold parts. Still have it , but I never shot it. Fazakerly production. Quote

Chantry Posted January 17 Posted January 17 The Mark V was supposed to be the new standard issue rifle, replacing all the earlier Marks, but the recoil and the wandering zero, which the British Army never resolved, kept the Mark 4 I & II in service until they were replaced by the L1A1 Self Loading Rifle (FN FAL in inch measurements) Quote
watab kid Posted January 17 Posted January 17 i had two , a BSA early production and a FAZ late production , in my mind very nice combat carbines , but then i was a commonwealth collector and still have a good number , one has to be very interested to dig deeply here as there are a lot of confusing things in this realm , 1 Quote
Dapper Dynamite Dick Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Had one about 48 years ago, it could never keep zero so I passed it on. Quote

Mississippi Mike Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago I saw one at a gun show with all the lightening areas on the receiver and barrel but the information on the left side of the receiver were all but “scrubbed” off and there were no serial numbers, on anything! Additionally, it had very little use… I didn’t know what to think! 1 Quote
