Pat Riot Posted January 2 Posted January 2 “Economy Car” I guess the term ‘economy car’ in ‘59 hold a totally different meaning that the economy car of the 70’s and later. 2 Quote

Subdeacon Joe Posted January 2 Author Posted January 2 I'll give you the the '62 Dodge Dart was ugly because of the out of proportion grill. But most of the other years were pretty clean. Headlights seem a little bit too big, but not out landish. Quote
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 AHH! The Studebaker Lark. I remember the fun we had in my City, when as an economy move, they bought them for Police use! "After all, you have radios and can set up road blocks!" Worked fine using them to deliver summons and issuing parking tickets, but then a gang hit town and a few banks with cars with a little more oomph than the Lark and ran them silly around town and escaped. A certain senior officer who joined the chase had a Reising in his Lark never got near them. When he got back to the station, it is alleged, he emptied the mag into the grease pit, in full view of the mechanics who were eating their lunch. Shortly after, new tenders for high performance dedicated Police use cruisers, was called. Seems the citizens of Ottawa were not too happy and the Mayor at the time was able to finally understand. 3 Quote
Rip Snorter Posted January 2 Posted January 2 Had a Studebaker Lark convertible with the 8 cylinder engine in college - fast enough and a chick magnet. Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 (edited) The Lark Daytona was a pretty hot little piece! 289” Studebaker V8 and a four speed manual transmission, four barrel carb or fuel injection. The “63 model even had a front disc brake option! Later models were equipped with a 327 Chevy engine!! They were no slouch! Edited January 2 by Blackwater 53393 1 Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted January 2 Posted January 2 (edited) I drove one of these from Ohio to California in 1982. I sold it out there and took the bus back. Mine was a copper color. Dodge Dart Swinger 1976 Edited January 2 by Rye Miles #13621 1 Quote

Alpo Posted January 3 Posted January 3 1962 Dodge Dart Super Stock 413 wedge Don't know how much truth there is to this, but in the comments of this video somebody said that this race has been run several times by many different car magazines. The Dodge always wins. 1 Quote
Will Kane Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Those old Dodge Darts with their reliable slant six engines were pretty ubiquitous during my high school days. I remember in the late 50s and early 60s when the stars of Chevrolet-sponsored television programs would appear in a television special at the beginning of each new model year to introduce the product line. Dinah Shore, the stars of Bonanza and the stars of Route 66 are the ones I can remember. 2 Quote
