Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) Huh! According to the Interweb, today - Monday, December 30, 2024 - was the last day for shooting at the range used by and home of the Chorro Valley Regulators. What the heck...?? https://www.slosa.org/ THE RANGE WILL BE CLOSING AT THE END OF THE YEAR. THE LAST DAY OF SHOOTING WILL BE MONDAY, DEC. 30 News Story Edit: Just found this TV news story from earlier in the month. I also spoke with a couple of locals who believe the interviewee may be overly optimistic. Let's hope not. Edited December 31, 2024 by Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 3 Quote
Yul Lose Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 (edited) Yep, at the Western Regional in August it seemed like a wake. There wasn’t a lot of optimism about the future of the range. Haven’t heard where or if there would be a Western Regional in 2025. The reasons we were given why the range was closing were not the same as those in the article. Pat Riot Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 “Fish and Wildlife would not be renewing the contract” In other words “Leftists in the DFG are shutting it down!” The Dept of Fish and Wildlife used to be called the Dept of Fish and Game. Now under it’s new name it loves taking hunter’s and shooters money but they not hunter/shooter friendly in any way. You can kiss that range goodbye. 3 Quote
Yul Lose Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Just now, Pat Riot said: “Fish and Wildlife would not be renewing the contract” In other words “Leftists in the DFG are shutting it down!” The Dept of Fish and Wildlife used to be called the Dept of Fish and Game. Now under it’s new name it loves taking hunter’s and shooters money but they not hunter/shooter friendly in any way. You can kiss that range goodbye. Bingo. 1 1 Quote
Smokin Gator SASS #29736 Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Initially this was supposed to be about the cowboy/ blackpowder part of the range. Now I've seen that the entire range including the Hogue range is shutting down at least temporarily. The article I read said that back to 2021 the operators have been out of compliance with the contract some of it do to the amount of money being charged for use of the range according to an audit. They are looking for a new group to run the range. I don't know if part of the closure is permanent and part may reopen. Someone from down there may provide more info. 1 Quote
Dusty Devil Dale Posted January 1 Posted January 1 Perhaps somebody representing CVR can post here directly and settle the rumors. My most recent (but second-hand) understanding is that CVR is temporarily relocating for six or so months and is expecting to return after the State re-contracts with a new entity to manage the State Wildlife Area that has hosted the SLOSA Range, where CVR and other clubs have operated. The State area was given to the Dept of Fish and Wildlife (then Dept of Fish and Game) with a deed covenant that it must continue to be used for shooting education and recreational shooting. 2 3 Quote
