T-Square Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Now that the Land Run shooter applications will be come available in mid-January, I was wondering - what are the sites to see, and the warm-up matches to attend, as we journey out to Arcadia Oklahoma from the East Coast? Atlanta is my starting point. I've been looking at RV Trip Wizard for campgrounds and State Parks, and other places of interest. Is this a two week journey, or do you zoom in-and-out of town, and simply shoot the match? What are the 'must-see' attractions along the way? Any wam-up matching in the weeks prior? I'm sure the Cowboy circuit has plenty of suggestions - please share them here. This will be my first trip to Land Run, and I would appreciate any suggestions and advise you have for camping and playing tourist along the way. Quote
WymoreWrangler SASS 46187L Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 (edited) One big knowledge factor is the town of Arcadia is a major speed trap, one mile an hour and they will write you a ticket. The Banquet is held at the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, but if it's your first time, I'd would plan on spending the whole day there... And POP's is a store with 1500 kinds of pop/soda and looks like it's out of the Jetison cartoon, a must stop... Edited December 30, 2024 by WymoreWrangler SASS 46187L 1 Quote
Barbwire Bart Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Arcadia is right outside of Oklahoma City. Several things to do there. Been there several times visiting in-laws. My Flossie Belle is from OKC. You have to go to the Western Heritage Museum. that’s a good half a day or better. You also have the Oklahoma Bombing site that is a good memorial and in downtown and close to river walk. 2 Quote
Tn Tombstone Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 If you are not staying on the range I would strongly recommend Twin Fountains RV Resort. On site restaurant and bar owned by a Marine. It is an easy 30 minute drive to the range. About 2 miles from the Cowboy Museum where the awards are held. Also about a mile or so from the casino/horse track if you like that sort of thing. I would also make it down town to the Land Run Memorial. One of the greatest display of brass sculptures I have ever seen. Also can stop at Toby Keith bar and grill while you are there. We RV a lot and are in North GA. We will push through and do one night stands for two nights then spend a few nights in OK City even when shooting is not involved. It is a interesting city. If you want to see something really strange check out the Bone Museum. Lots of fun. 3 Quote
Scrub Oak Willie 53737 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 On your way you can stop at Fort Smith AK. . We spent the night there last year. Interesting town and history of the old west. Willie 1 Quote
Choctaw Jack Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 +1 for the Twin Fountains RV Park . Good access to the range. The Cowboy Museum is a must see .The OKC bombing site is well worth seeing, and lots to see, do, and there are lots of shopping and dining opportunities on the River Walk and Bricktown. When I was there last, you could take a trip through Bricktown by gondola. The OKC Stockyards has some historic interest as well. 2 Quote
Texas Maverick Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Cattleman's Steak House at the Stockyards is a very good restaurant. TM 3 Quote

The cowboy club, Judge Parker's, isn't shooting a match (the weekend before) so I'm going to shoot this range: https://thorranges.com/ and play golf at Ben Geren Golf. All are welcome ! Quote
