Slow Mo Dern Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Howdy, We have some children who are 16 years of age and younger. Their category is Junior Boy and Junior Girl. They are too old to be Buckaroos. Is there a rule that states that they get free matches until they're 18 years old? I never thought of this before because it's never come up. Would this include clubs that are not SASS affiliated? What is your club's policy? Thank you in advance. Sincerely, Slow Mo Dern Quote
John Kloehr Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Not speaking for a club, but did recently learn family-pass holders at Dollywood are getting upset because anyone 10 or older is subject to a separate adult admission fee not covered under family admission. For clubs at host ranges, I would not be surprised if participation is defined more by the host range than the hosted club. That said, to the extent it translates, I do think Dollywood is on the wrong side of any price break for junior participation. 1 Quote
Crisco Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 (edited) There is no rule. Our club gives free shoots for Juniors and Buckaroos/Buckarettes, including the State match. We just eat the meal and trophy costs; we want them shooting. Edited December 30, 2024 by Crisco clarity 5 2 Quote
Colorado Coffinmaker Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 (edited) No SASS Rule. Totally up to the hosting Club that club's Match Director. OOPS!! Crisco beat me to the "There is No Rule." Edited December 30, 2024 by Colorado Coffinmaker Oops 1 1 Quote
slow poke gear Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 My two kids started at 9 and 11. The clubs we shoot at we had to start paying for them after buckaroo, so age 14. 1 1 Quote
Black Hills Barb Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Our club doesn't charge Buckaroos. Young Guns are $5. Adults are $10. We've had these rates for 25 years and don't really intend to raise them. 1 1 Quote
Doc McCoy, SASS #8381 Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 At our "monthly" shoots Buckaroos & Young Guns (Juniors) are free. At our VT State match they are $10, which is below cost. 2 1 Quote
Captain Bill Burt Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 (edited) Some local clubs charge for kids, some don't charge for kids and some not only don't charge for kids but also allow for a free shoot to an adult who brings a kid. As an adult shooter who has a wife and two kids shooting with him, these discounts are greatly appreciated. Edited December 30, 2024 by Captain Bill Burt 3 1 Quote

watab kid Posted January 1 Posted January 1 this is interesting topic , back when i wanted my grandkids to shoot i was expecting to pay - not having any issue with it , im pleased to know there are venues that let them shoot free and that there are resources spent to make that happen , im glad to know we want the young getting into this , they are the future of it down the road , i never got any of my grandkids to take this up -yet- but im hopeful that one day they might make the time , i have one in college , two in high school and three in junior high at this point , 2 Quote

Sincerely, Slow Mo Dern I can't remember our clubs policy but I think 16 and under shoot free at monthly matches. At our State Match they shoot for $80 instead of $140. $55 of that is our Friday Night Dinner and Saturday Night Awards Banquet. Randy 3 Quote
