When I was in marching band, drumheads were still dried animal skin.

When I went to the Scottish festival locally a few years ago, I struck up conversation with one of their drummers, using these modern drumheads.

I was fascinated by the tightness of his roll, something I'd never seen with the animal skin snare heads: he explained they were made of Kevlar, and I was honestly surprised.

I'd worn Kevlar but never knew it could be used for this purpose!

Since then, vids involving the Top Secret drum corps served to l'arn my poor slow mind that yes, drums and drumming have evolved since dirt was young and so was I!

Those two drummers burned more calories in 2+ minutes than I burn all day.
