Alpo Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 (edited) There is a webcomic. Takes place in Canada. In today's strip we find out that this guy is a college student, and he colors comic books on the side. Now that, to me, doesn't sound like earning enough money to put himself through college. He says his father is a self-made tycoon. So Daddy's rich. I would assume, then, that Daddy is putting him through college. But he's taking art and Daddy thinks he's taking business. I know if I was paying for my kid to go to college I would know what classes she was taking. With Daddy not knowing that he's not taking business, Daddy apparently is not paying for it, and since his side job would not pay him enough money to pay for it, does Canada give you a free college education? Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 No. Tuition is charged. It's a big business for most Universities, but the students usually overstay their education VISAs and disappear or at least thumb their noses at attempts to repatriate them to their homelands. Quote

Gee... that sure sounds familiar. Now, in this state (california), there exists another quirk. In simplest terms, a citizen of another U S state attending a state college or university likely has to pay a much larger tuition (ex: University of california system: non-resident $40,644 vs resident $13,900). However, "undocumented immigrants" are not required to pay the out-of-state rate. Also, they may benefit from any of several financial aid programs established just for them. I wonder if our guv and their PM might be cousins.... 4 Quote

What's that. My dad was a college professor. I remember a friend form somewhere in Kansas, also a college professor came to visit. Dad asked how many students they had. The guy grinned and said "about one of every eight are students. The rest just spend Dad's money and waste our time." 1 2 Quote
Ozark Huckleberry Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 I’ve always believed there should be a law that ‘free’ cannot be used to describe something that is taxpayer-funded. It’d never happen, because it would handicap 75% of the promises politicians campaign on. 2 2 1 Quote
