I had an acquaintance years ago through Boy Scouting that was a big game hunter. He owned a local Chevrolet dealership which gave him the means to hunt on every continent. He invited myself and a couple friends to his house to see his trophy room. (WOW, but that is another story). In conversation, I asked what was the most dangerous game he had ever hunted. Without hesitation he said "Indian Gaur". I had never heard of one. He told us about his hunt for one and described them as "being pissed even when they are in a good mood".

“A wild ox” is one definition of a Gaur. Tame oxen can be intimidating. I have been up close (100 feet is close enough) to Bison, Water Buffalo and American Oxen and can’t imagine having to contend with a 4000 pound angry gaur.

A 140 lb pi**ed off wife is more than I want to handle....let alone that thing.

Now I wonder what they taste like.

Twice when I was a kid I was chased by bulls.  The first was a big brown bull. Not sure of breed. I was 6 and just barely beat him to the electric fence.

The second was a black angus bull, I think. I was 11 at the time. The bull followed me into the barn. I had made it up a short ladder into the lower hayloft. The bull knocked the support post from under the loft but the loft stayed.
In both instances I went into the bull’s territory. First, was a field. Second, was a fenced area the bull was to have been moved from before we started work.
A Gaur can run 30 miles per hour. An American Bull can do 15-20 miles per hour.
Supposedly Tigers can run 40 mph. But tigers aren’t stupid.

And what did your friend do to take a gaur? Something larger than a .22rf I would imagine!  Friend of mine who used to hunt Cape Buffalo in Africa used a .500 Nitro Express and one time a .577 Nitro Express! He had taken a number buffs at the request of the local game managers to feed the local population.

You can't "hunt" them in Texas.

If you do take one and decide you want a life-size mount, just the mannikin is over $4,000.

I like the “hunt” in quotation marks. I was offered an opportunity to go on a canned “hunt” in Texas by a relative of my wife’s. I politely declined.
