At Christmas dinner today my son brought up Christmas Carolers, haven’t seen them in years!
Have any of you had a visit by and Carolers?🎄🤔

When I was a kid there were church choirs that would go around town singing carols.

In the early 80’s the company where I worked hired professional singers to sing carols at various facilities.

I haven’t seen carolers since.

About 20 years ago we had some Carolers in the neighborhood. They were a group from the Methodist church behind us but another group took over that church soon after and there no more Carolers.

I haven't seen them in many years myself.  I would like to see them come back.

I think with the way things have declined, especially in urban and suburban areas, it has become a safety issue.  That is really too bad.

We had them come by about 10 years ago. It was pretty neat. They still get together, but haven't journeyed up our driveway since the first time!

Once, and once only, in the past quarter century.

My sister in law said she went caroling with a small group in her North Carolina neighborhood this year.

Unfortunately, I believe that you are on spot with the safety issue point.

Funny you bring up Christmas carols.  This is the first time for 80+ years no one in my family has gone caroling on Christmas Eve.  Same street in St. Louis every Christmas Eve.  The locals would have Christmas parties and invite us in for cookies.  When one resident moved, they had a line in their sales contract that the new owners must be home on Christmas Eve for the carolers.   My parents started, I think, in the 1940's.  The group started some time before that.  My brother, sister and I joined when we were old enough to walk.  There may have been a year or two we were carried.  Kids were always given the collection cans.  The Charity, still around, is the St. Louis Christmas Carols Association.  Over the years our group got smaller, people moved on, my brother, who I just found out died yesterday, moved to Texas, my sister dropped out and my parents passed on.  My wife joined us in the latter part of the 1900's (1982) and we took over our group ~'90.   It's about an hour drive to the location for us now, and that's a bit farther than we want to drive on a potentially snowy Christmas Eve.  We couldn't find anyone to take over the small group that was still active so last year was the end of that group.

The final house on the street had a big German Christmas tree with real candles.  They always had a big party and would send kids out to see how close we were getting to their house so they would know when to light the candles.  We'd sing O Tannebaum and Stille Nacht auf Deutsch per the request of the matriarch of the house.  I got a phone call from the lady with the German Christmas tree about a month ago to ask if we REALLY weren't coming back this year.

Probably more than you wanted to know, but thanks for letting me recall and share some good memories.

The story about the Christmas Caroling tradition was heartening.  Thank you.

Very sorry, sir. As for carolers, not once have I ever heard them around Southwest AZ - still too hot to go walking around.

Thanks all for the condolences and prayers.  I'm still in a little shock since I just talked to him on Christmas and he sounded fine.  Right now we're still trying to figure out how to get to Lindale, TX and where we're going to stay while we're there.  I guess I ought to start a thread on that.  Sorry to bring the mood down.

Please return to the regularly scheduled silliness.
