Erasmus Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 My absolute favorite .30-30 load is 5.5 grains of Red Dot under a coated 165 RNFP. Quote
High Spade Mikey Wilson Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Interesting that you should ask. A month ago I aquired a Winchester '94 in 30-30. I bought some 165 grain RNFP Hi-Tek Super Coat .309 diameter bullets, and started some load experimenting at 50 yards with open sights. After trying different charge weights of Unique, Trail Boss, H335, IMR3031, and IMR4895 I decided on the IMR4895 at 30 grains that gave me about a 2" group. My next trip to the range I'll try 30.5 & 31 grains of 4895 to see how they group, and then I'll make my final choice. One of the clubs I shoot at has a long range rifle stage each month where you can forgo the normal 10 shot rifle targets for a 3 shot long range target out about 50-60 yards. I got the 30-30 to go along with my 32 Special, and 38-55 rifles, to shoot this stage. Quote
Randy Saint Eagle, SASS # 64903 Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Years ago I worked up a 30-30 load for my now ex brother in law. It was shot in an old angle eject Winchester’94 using a spire point bullet. Yes they were single loaded and not put in the mag tube, for obvious Safety reasons. They were also stretched long enough they would not have fed from the magazine anyway. I can’t remember the powder charge I used but I got the best groups, well under an inch at 100 yards, with Winchester 748 powder. Randy Quote

Griff Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 With that humongous list of braggin' you don't need my help, or anyone else's!. 😁 But, just in case, someone thinks I ain't willin' to share my favorite load, let me first say... I don't shoot a 170 grain bullet in my .30-30s. but, my .310" 150 grain CGFN lubed with Lyman Alox is loaded in front of 27 grains of RE-7. For a smooth 2275 fps and about ¾ MOA from my 26" heavy octagon .30-30 94 Winchester. Quote
