Hoss Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 I managed to lose the detention ball. While I know I can just leave the dust cover off, I’d kinda like to replace it. Does anyone know the size of the ball so I can just go try to find one at hardware store or something?
Oklahoma Dee Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 I have used a bb, from the BB gun stash.

Does anyone know the size of the ball so I can just go try to find one at hardware store or something? 3.5 mm works really well, I ordered a set of assorted stainless steel balls from Amazon to see what size it was, the set had about 50 of the right size in it so I’m good for a while. Merry Christmas!🤠 Randy
Randy Saint Eagle, SASS # 64903 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 I think this is the set I got, some of the larger ones would be fun with a slingshot!🤠 Randy https://www.amazon.com/QCQIANG-Stainless-Precision-Bearing-Assortment/dp/B09H6LXL9Y/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?crid=1HZZ7D390KDYJ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ObJiBgrGZ7khgpMa4jIgBm1HpouwoT-c7DBfYEj7BcO1zgowMYjDV0IaRjAGoMM6MT6OB3i0fCkM0w7KS-r_BHAWaXfflR9RrXI3i430lgD5b3O49giKLaP-RS7dspRRkfsXbFc85NQgD4u4Yf842W3jVoiLCnn-Ls8gq_PkmJJ3e2J4-6O8zT_r4qEc9bhR4Cu3Dy-XtC8DRso76Dm5s08YXnggJVLY1PBrF-CD6S7rChPsYuMYezhFuqwqULVHSynucY0_aLhk_mkmteUNIYVG9wv8XNcg0tWnlRrohTg.cMLlVc1PE2AnZwZJ8KB8ccx9_trMUfgoLS_RxyENitc&dib_tag=se&keywords=3.5mm+stainless+steel+balls&qid=1735062297&sprefix=3.5mm+stainless+steel+balls%2Caps%2C121&sr=8-2-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

Garrison Joe, SASS #60708 Posted December 24, 2024 Posted December 24, 2024 Just put a new copper plated #4 steel shot pellet in my main match gun! Last one went to Mars. GJ

Heard it clear as a bell, both impacts. Start looking for it...for about 20 minutes until some bad words became audible. My gal comes out and asks what's going on, why are you cussing. Told her the story of the indent ball and the bing - bonk ceiling floor landing. She looked down, bends over to pick up something and says "You mean this?". Yep, the indent ball. I thanked her for finding it...but I was thinking some bad words again.
Eyesa Horg Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 One day while tidying the reloading room, I spotted a large primer under the edge of a plastic drawers cabinet. Poked at it to get it out, boing, gone! Still haven't after much searching, found it. Every time I roll my chair I expect to hear an explosion and need an underwear change.

Colorado Coffinmaker Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Randy, OK. Just usually not necessary for cleaning the gun.

Dogmeat Dad, SASS #48563L Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 I have four of them. One is in the rifle, one is in the tool box, and the other two are somewhere under a cabinet in a space that even air can't get too. Bought mine from VTI Gun Parts, but pretty much any correctly sized ball bearing will do.

Eyesa Horg Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 What we need is a heavy duty mat made out of something similar to magnetic signs for truck doors! Then when we drop something like that it will just stick where it hits.
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Work inside a bead-blasting box or a large cardboard box that will help catch flying loose parts you can't afford to lose! GJ
Rough 'N Ready Rob Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Shoot a Marlin, you don't have to worry about it.😁

Sheriff Dill Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 I bought a rubber mat made for gun cleaning at either Dicks Sporting Goods or Walmart. It is 48” long by 18” or so and has a magnetic tray at one end of it that works great for cleaning the rifle. We have almost lost that same piece many times.
Sheriff Dill Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Several places carry them. They range from $25-$50 depending on the one you want.
