M 107, 108, 109, 110 self propelled artillery were all modern when I first put on a uniform.  Wonderful peices.

Does that make me a vintage person?

If you answered "yes" then, upyers.

M107, 175 and m110, 8 inch had the same chassis.

the 700 round barrel life was only if you shot max shots. In training you would shoot less powder and the tube would last longer.

during viet nam, all new barrels went to Asia and both m107 and M110 in Europe and USA, were considered less than combat ready because of barrels beyond calculated lifetimes.

After the breech was closed and tube was in position a member of the crew would insert a primer (it looked like a 45-70 blank) and pull the lanyard. One time in Grafenwoehr, I was in my van and we heard “click”, damn, misfire. Proper procedure was to give the gun 30 minutes to cool, open the breach, unload all powder, lower the tube to -2° insert ramrod and have the crew ram the round out. It does take some shoving.

instead the PFC, pulled the lanyard again and BOOOOOM, to the relief of all concerned. It never happened.
