Marlin action jobs are no longer listed on the website. They also no longer offer C&B revolvers with action jobs. Quote
Widder, SASS #59054 Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 SLATER (Slaters In-House-Guns) is actively working on Marlins. His cowboy name is also Slater and his real name is Eric Slater, Louisville, TN. If requested, Slater is also familiar with the angle/slant feed (Widdermatic) modification. and he is an excellent trigger smith. Its o.k. for me to list it because its a listed business number: 865 / 591-5129 I don't know if Longhunter is still working on Marlins but his work is excellent. ..........Widder 4 2 Quote

Long Hunter SASS #20389L Posted December 23, 2024 Posted December 23, 2024 I'm not retired, just slowed down to spend more time with family and grandkids. I still sell and perform action work on Rugers, Uberti SA's and Uberti 1873/66's. We no longer perform action work on Marlins. I'm sending the customers that ask to Slater as noted by Widder. BTW, Widder taught Slater and lives close by if there is a problem. You can't go wrong with that combination. FYI, speaking of grandkids, took my three grandsons deer hunting and all three got their buck. The youngest is 10 years old and got his first buck out of a blind with his dad. The two older boys (16 and 18) are really good hunters/shooters and made great stalk hunts to get theirs. 29 3 Quote

Nice deer, were they hunting in the hill country of South Texas? Kajun Quote

Haha, we have big bodied deer in this area. We had four Academy corn feeders out to help keep the deer in our area. Plus four cell camera's and one blind for the 10 year old. The older boys have to spot and stalk their bucks. The cool thing is I had live pictures of all three bucks. The 10 year old's whitetail was 8.5-9.5 years old and probably wouldn't have made it through the winter. Teeth were below the gum line in the back. The other whitetail was 5.5-6.5 years old. The mule deer was 4.5 years old and could have used one more year but I told the 16 year old if he can make the stalk, have at it. Here's the live pics of them. 4 Quote

Irish Pat Posted December 25, 2024 Posted December 25, 2024 Slater did my new Ruger Marlin 1894-C. it works excellent. I have always used 1866 and 1873 carbines. I went in a gun shop in Parker CO and they happened to have RM serial number 00007 for sale. I couldn’t help myself so now I have a new Rumarln! Slater was recommended to me and he did a great job on it. Irish ☘️ Pat 2 1 Quote

Widder, SASS #59054 Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 A little 'Widder' history: About 15 or so years ago, a Cowboy name 'Widdermaker Hill' modified some of the internals of his .38 Marlin 1894. At that time, other Cowboys had nicknamed him.... 'Widder'. (short for Widowmaker). The Carrier inside the 1894 is the heart of the mod and it functioned so flawlessly (all the time) that some of the 1873 rifle shooters started calling it a 'Widdermatic'. Thats how it got its name. Basically, the carrier is cut to allow the bullet to sit at an angle AND a slight slant...... and in more recent years, the front area of the carrier is modified to 'cradle' the bullet a little different than its factory position. These mods eliminate certain 'speed limits' within the action and also allow the 1894 to reliably function using most bullet styles AND eliminates critical OAL restrictions. More about the 'Widdermatic and Widdermajik' can be found on Marauders website. I will also post a little video on the Widdermajik and Widdermatic below. Hope you enjoy. ..........Widder (on the 1st rifle display, note the OAL of those rounds shown on the table. That particular rifle has a 'timing curve' built into the carrier) 1 Quote

Following the excellent instructions that Widder posted on Marauder's site, https://marauder.homestead.com/files/Widdermatic_Marlin.htm I was able to rescue a Marlin 1894 carbine that had been "rode hard and put up wet" from a gun store and make it into a nice Widdermatic. (The 20" barreled rifle that your wife shot at Cross Creek, was short-stroked). 1 Quote
