Alpo Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 When you cook something, and you mix it up in a bowl, and then pour it into something else, do you try to get everything out of the bowl? I was watching this video where they're making this chicken and rice casserole thing. And the rice gets transferred three or four times. And every time they portedPOURED IT out of one container into another container they describeDIDN'T SCRAPE the rice out of the bowl. They would put the first container down and it had damp rice stuck all over the inside. Looked like they probably lost half a cup of rice in the making of that recipe. Just seemed strange to me. I always try to use all the food. I make sure I scrape the container. And for the people that want to see the video so they can try it
Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I paid good money for those ingredients. I'm making double sure I get all of 'em out of the bowl and into the secondary container! (I've also known what it is to be so damned poor I couldn't afford to pay attention, let alone all my bills ... another reason I faithfully scrape out EVERY LAST BIT!)

Stump Water Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 What Linn said. Besides, you have to scrape it out sometime.
Tooky Slim Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I scrape...I want it all, and I want it now
Pat Riot Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I thought I was going to get to see a good recipe for cooking children…

Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 Limited amount of time on TV. Takes too long to do the finicky, mundane and they just want to get on with the important stuff. Or that part is just edited out prior to broadcast.
Calamity Kris Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I would also try to get every last bit. That being said, for the sake of expediency, they left that part out of the video. I've seen enough internet cooking videos where if the cook takes too long to make the thing, I'll move on to something else.
Subdeacon Joe Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 I usually use a rubber scraper to get all of it. Sometimes I just use my hand, but I do better with the scraper. The cooking times in the receipts are calculated for the full amount, not reduced by 10% or more. But do keep in mind that when they record the video they are as concerned with a smooth and watchable presentation. Showing 5 minutes of scraping the bowl would be counterproductive. Just like the videos that show every single eighth inch thick slice as the person slowly slices up six extra large onions with a 3" paring knife. Then another 15 minutes of them slowly and with excruciatingly precise attention to detail placing every slice into the baking dish. Already!

Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted December 22, 2024 Posted December 22, 2024 It's rumoured that Santa MAY have had the recipe:
