Bladesmith, SASS 113085 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 I recently acquired some checkered kirinite grips from the folks at Eagle Grips. I noticed the care instructions say to remove grips before cleaning the gun. I’m guessing there are some cowboys who don’t do that and wondering if there was any ill effect? It’s not a big deal, but I clean my guns regularly and if I don’t have to remove the grips each time, I’d be in favor of that option. Quote
Tarheel Doc Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 These are the only grips I use and I don’t remove to clean my Rugers 3 Quote
Horace Patootie, SASS #35798 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 I always remove my poly ivory grips before cleaning my Rugers Horace Quote
Beartrap SASS#57175 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Depends on your definition of "cleaning". If you are disassembling the gun to thoroughly clean it you have to. If you mean simply running a patch down the bore it's not necessary. 2 Quote

Captain Bill Burt Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 The grips come off?? Who knew? 1 4 Quote
Kid Rich Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 If I had to remove the grips when cleaning they would only come off once. They would be replaced when the gun went back together. kR 1 Quote

I usually pop out the cylinder and give everything I can get to a quick clean and oil so that’s what I was thinking of. For a real deep clean the grips aren’t problem, it’s those springs in the Vaquero that either want it to launch themselves into orbit or shift out of place at the last second. 😑 Quote
Jackrabbit Joe #414 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 (edited) Only when I tear it all apart for a good cleaning the Eagle Grips come off mine and Sly Puppy's. Merry Christmas everybody. Adding we shoot only smokeless powder. Edited December 21, 2024 by Jackrabbit Joe #414 aa info 1 Quote

Eyesa Horg Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 I remove them most of the time. Would hate to have solvent ruin them. If a quick clean, I wrap the grip in a blue ship towel. I've had brake cleaner leave finger prints in gun finishes, so I don't generally take the chance. 1 Quote
Wyatt Hurts SASS#72737 Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 Ok, I might be straying a bit but has anyone had the kirinite grips for long? They seem to be expensive for an acrylic with very thin colored strands of poly-paper are swirled through the mix. Quote
Burn Through Posted December 21, 2024 Posted December 21, 2024 snake bite and I shoot the same kinda powder goex and we have the grips that you have and I leave mine on also , but I take them off one time a year to tear down and deep clean 1 Quote

Yes they are CRAZY expensive but are the most popular grips in Sass because of the great fit. I had a pair and loved them. Sold them so I could order a pair of the new extended grips for my NMV’s ‘cause I have large hands. 6 - 8 week lead time! Quote
