Sedalia Dave Posted December 19, 2024 Author Posted December 19, 2024 I did some looking and I couldn't see where they ever tested their Spar Torpedo. I suspect that if they had, the crew would have suffered the same fate as the crew of the Hunley
Pat Riot Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 “Plongeur” means “Diver”. Any ship can dive. Only the specially designed ones can resurface.

Bailey Creek,5759 Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 Didn't the Hunley crew run out of air?

They were incapacitated by the blast shock waves from their "torpedo" charge. The Hunley then drifted away from their target, the Housatonic. The Housatonic sunk in just a few minutes after the blast. The outgoing tide carried the Hunley eastward into the Atlantic. The skeletons of the crew were found to be in their combat positions in the wreck of the Hunley.
