I can remember when a dollar was worth...a dime! :o

Think you got that bassakwards maybe. I remember when Cokes (in Texas all soft drinks are Cokes) went up to 25 cents and we thought we were being robbed.

That’s better than the last 3 years when it was $34 or $36.

Still isn’t the $22/pound it was before The Silliness.

Holy ****! It’s $40 per pound on Amazon.

I remember when they changed the Coke machines from $.05 to $.06 and people went nuts.

I was five, maybe six, years old and my mom’s cousin had the machine taken out of his shop over the penny increase!!

When I was a teenager, I bought Winston cigarettes out of the machine at the corner filling station for a quarter a pack!!  That was in the mid sixties!!  They went to $.35 and I nearly quit right then!

For a very long time Coke lobbied for a 7.5¢ coin so they could raise the price from a nickleb in vending machines, finally they just went to a dime, never 6¢.

As a little boy I found a half dollar coin in the street - early '50's.  I was young enough that I was not supposed to leave the block but hoofed it up to the little store that sold a bit of every thing.  Today they would call it a convenience store, but not nearly as fancy.  I came away from the penny candy counter with a bag of candy and change.  Not only did I spoil all my friend's dinners, I got in deep trouble.

I know where there’s an old crank handle COKE machine that STILL takes a nickel and a penny!  They don’t use it anymore, but it’s in the basement of the church where we met for Boy Scouts.

The one in my mom’s cousin’s place,  (when they brought it back a couple months later) also took the nickel and penny!

A dojo I attended on and off for years had one, a quarter, most slots beer and a coffee can on top of the machine for an honor payment if you got a beer.

A garage I worked in in Georgia had one of the “slider” machines that they did the same thing with.

When I get around to finding the rest of the parts for this one, I may do the same thing!!

I remember those. You put a dime in and it unlocked the gate so you could get the soda of your choice out. My younger brother figured out a way to keep the gate open so you could get more sodas out, but if you bumped the rails or gate the wrong way it would latch again.
We also discovered that if you swipe an extra soda and the gas station owner tells your Dad you not only have to pay for the stolen soda but you get your backside tanned.

Cracker barrel has a few dozen different old time candy bars and a place in Prescott has even more.

Big Hunk, Idaho Spud, Merry Cherry, Black Jack gum and a whole herd more.  Both places also sell old timey soda pop.  I get all my sarsaparilla from Cracker Barrel.
