From my vantage point, it really began during the Great Dumpster Fire of 2020, Covid lock down.

It certainly got worse during the damnpanic, but it started before that.  I haven't flown commercial for ten years (and hope to never have to again), but even back then a lot of the younger generations were in their PJs, especially on an early AM flight.

Of course, back in '86 when I left University and hit the workforce there was no such thing as "business casual" or "dress down Fridays", etc.

I don't own any PJ's, I sleep in my "birthday suit" and it's no ones business but my own. In the summer I wear shorts every day. Winter is a different story!

In my area we get a couple of stretches of 110°+ each summer. Routinely in the 100s the rest of the summer. Cargo shorts tshirts and a ball cap and sneakers for me. If I just stay home I'll wear gym shorts on the property. I'll wear  shorts in spring and fall while it's still warm enough.

Winter I do wear long pants. Boots if it's bad weather. I only wear rubber sandals if I just go out in the yard or driveway for something quick. Never downtown. I recently picked up a pair of sweat pants to wear on our property or in the house when it's colder. Regular hooded sweatshirt for when it's cold and dry. Other coats for rain.

I would hope that it's not "just" a T-shirt.   You know,  something else like pants.

I came out of bed like I'd been clap boarded across the backside.

Scanner announced a code ten, officer assist, my bailiwick.

I was home, trying to sleep, I'd been up 36 hours of nonstop hell between calls with the Marshal's office, two house fires and multiple squad runs, I was so tired I was cross eyed.

Launched out of bed, get dressed, sling the gunbelt over my shoulder, clap the Stetson on my head and head for the door.

My wife stopped me: "Aren't you forgetting something?"

She looked down.

I looked down.

I was not wearing trousers.

Somehow -- to this day I know not how -- enough brain cells shone through my mental fatigue fog to let me know ... if I'm so fuzzy as to forget my drawers, I'm too tired to be effective.

I went back to bed.

Familiar story long ago.  Funny in retrospect.  Summer - something woke me up after a long shift and I heard one helluva bang, a car being hit broadside at speed.  Immediately called it in but all squads were engaged so dispatch sent me. Scrambled around, got into a uniform shirt, boots and jeans.  No time for contacts and the only glasses I could put my hand on were prescription sunglasses.  For some unknowable reason instead of grabbing my gunbelt, I stuck my nightstand 1911 in my jeans mexican carry.  Off I went to an accident literally at the corner of my block.  As I reached the accident, a T bone, one of the people on the scene saw my shirt & badge and took off running.  I chased him, but couldn't run with the gun in my waistband so drew that 45.  I might have caught him anyway, but he looked over his shoulder and saw me with gun in hand and stopped, hands up.  About the time I got him back to the accident, a 2 man car had arrived.  They thought my outfit was pretty funny and I was relieved, sent home.  I never did find out exactly what happened, and it took a while before comments on my unique uniform stopped. No PJs, didn't / don't use 'em.

I learned that in The Marines. If you look like you deserve respect, you get respect. If you look like crap, you get treated like crap.

So true.

When I get called in to teach, if it's a shop class, jeans and a flannel shirt. I might be with kids welding, woodworking or livestock. Other subjects I wear dress pants and a nice button-down shirt. I think the kids respond better when it looks like you give a darn to show up.

Amazingly, I see full time faculty in sweat clothes or clothes you would wear to do yard work.

And if you want to see more folks out in pajamas, have Christmas dinner at a Chinese restaurant. Everyone coming in for carryout orders is in pajamas.

I can kind of understand that IF it's late at night. My father used to go pick up a pizza in his jammies and a robe. But it WAS around Midnight when he did so.

While I was an Outside Plant manager at the phone company, I made the 45 minute ride to work as usual. Walked into the garage at quarter to 6 and stepped on the garage floor drainage grate, boy did it feel odd in my feet! Looked down to see slippers and no socks!! Got my balls busted often that day! Stayed in my truck when I went to check on the crews. Oh well.;)

Dangit PaleWolf! Now you’ve blown my cover.  If people think I’m dumb they’ll leave me alone and not expect anything from me. Now I guess I have to go with extreme color coordination and I will probably have to wear a silly hat now…

The NC Transportation Museum does the Polar Express thing from the beginning of November thru Christmas.   Kinda fun to see everyone waiting to get on the train wearing PJs.  Lots of whole-family-matching PJs too.

I guess me and the missus need to do that one year, but the closest thing I have to PJs is a flannel shirt.

I have some light weight drawstring pants that sort of look like jeans that are my go-to for almost everything since I stopped working.  Those and a square cut plaid shirt

do for 90% of my going out of the house.  My short call back to work saw me back in my black jeans and work shirt with company logo embroidered over the left pocket,

(company had T-shirts,  butI don't wear T-shirts and like to have those pockets, so that's what they bought me after I had bought my first 5.  They did pay to have the embroidery done on the ones i bought).

For church,  it's a white shirt and black jeans under my cassock.

yes , thats my problem too - what i wear to bed is not presentable for public viewing , i might have a real pair of PJs somewhere but they would be decades old and most likely holiday themed , i wear a lot of sweats at night as my wife keeps the house colder than my old body can tolerate anymore ,

I have only worn underwear to bed since I can remember. I can't sleep with a shirt on so I  don't own any pajamas. If there is ever a fire, I'm gonna look pretty silly when the fire trucks come.

They’ll give you a blanket. No problem. :D

Who makes these shirts? Where do you buy them?

I have been looking for decent camp shirts for a while now.

yes , i get 6that - when i was in college i slept wthout but i was not married to this woman then , we make compromises in ;life , mine is to wear extra clothes at home the las6t 30+ years , she runs hot - i  run cold , easier for me to add clothes or a space heater than her to try to get cool , i live with it - if we move south [which i want to do] she will run the AC more , no win for me save not shoveling snow and im tired of that already and only done so twice this year so far , i love my wife - i wish we were in the same temperate zone but i doubt that will ever happen ,

came back to add that i love my wife - whatevewr makes her happy ill go with , we live here now [dont have to -could be anywhere] because she wont leave the grandkids at this point , i may not live long enough to be anywhere else but im open to anywhere - that doesnt tax me to death , particularly my social security ................they took that , now they can give it back without taxing me

Last Saturday, we were preparing to go to my mom’s house for her Christmas celebration. I was dressed in my customary black T-shirt and bib overalls.

Schoolmarm comes strutting into the room wearing a Christmas sweatshirt with “MERRY CHRISTMAS” emblazoned across the front…

and a pair of panama pants with little Santas all over them.

I gave her what for, but she was adamant about wearing them. I finally said, “Okay! But you ain’t getting out of the car ‘til we get to Mom’s and not on the way back EITHER!!”
