Curly Wolf Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I searched for previous threads and didn’t see anything that answered this. It looks like CZ modified its cocking system for the the Sharptail for all their newer guns. 1. How difficult is it to slick them up? 2. Are there any modified springs out there for them or is it a, must send to Gunsmith, job? 3. Know of any gunsmiths that work on them? Quote
Texas Maverick Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 As stated, Griner Gun Works, is on the SASS Merchant section. I have two of his and they are great. TM Quote
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971 Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 Shotgun Boogie sells a spring kit. You would still need to polish the chambers and modify the breech for ease of loading. My CZ Sharptail is from Long Hunters when they work on shotguns. You will like the gun. Quote
Tatanka Dex Posted December 18, 2024 Posted December 18, 2024 Capt. Jack Dalton does a great job with them. Quote

Windy City Kid Posted Tuesday at 05:55 PM Posted Tuesday at 05:55 PM After my smith did my CZ ST Coach, it falls open with the weight of the barrel quite easily. Opens a heck of a lot easier too. 1 Quote

Yes, and they get better after shooting a few matches. My primary completely falls open when I hit the lever now after putting 4 or 5 hundred rounds through it. My backup falls maybe 7/8th completely open, just a nudge will completely open it. It just needs more rounds fired through it before it is as smooth as my primary. You won't be disappointed in Kens work. He also changes a lot of the internals and makes the extractor smaller as well so shells feed easier. Have you checked out his web page. Let me know if you have any other questions. SASS Merchant Page Web Page https://grinergunworks.com/cowboy-action/ TM Edited Tuesday at 06:48 PM by Texas Maverick 1 Quote
Randy Saint Eagle, SASS # 64903 Posted Wednesday at 04:06 AM Posted Wednesday at 04:06 AM I bought an already slicked up CZ Sharptail to see how they were. It was considerably harder to open than my SKB’s. I shot it in a match and inadvertently activated the safety during a stage so I decided to see what I’d have to do to make the safety stiffer. I changed the spring on the safety with some heavier spring stock and now it almost takes both thumbs to activate it. I’m fine with that since I don’t plan to engage the safety but I can in order to switch which barrel fires first if I want to. While I was into it I put some lighter firing pin springs in it and it opens a lot easier. I’m not great with a shotgun but I tried it out after reassembly and this run on 4KD’s a pigeon flipper and a clay bird went pretty well. Randy🤠 IMG_4220.mov 1 1 Quote

I had some assorted springs I bought from Brownells. I didn't have what I wanted but I selected the closest smaller diameter wire size and cut them 1 1/2 coils longer than what were in it. Springs I took out were .0435 diameter, I changed to .0350 diameter, I had hoped to find something closer to .0400 but that was all I had. I checked and had one FTF after firing a few primed hulls so I added 3 #6 flat washers to each spring strut. I fired over a box of shells with no problem now and intend to try it in our next match. The barrels do not fall open when cocking the hammers but if the stock is supported under your forearm you can flick your wrist and they will. Thanks Randy 1 Quote

Thanks Randy Store the gun cocked for a spell to settle the springs a bit. 1 Quote
