Planning a horseback trip out west this summer and of course I want my cowboy hat along for the ride (bad pun I know ) but I have never had to fly in anything but a baseball cap, how do you folks out west travel in an airplane with cowboy hats, I know this seems like a dumb question but the last time I flew in an airplane was 1984 and I know things have changed since then. Looking for some guidance on the subject. Thanks in advance

I wouldn't wear it.

Hat box in the overhead bin.

1984?  Wow.  Back then you could smoke on commercial flights.

Like @Stump Watersaid. Hat box in the overhead storage if it’s a nice hat.
For my all weather crushable Aussie type hats I just wear it then toss it on top of my carry-on in the overhead.

Just turn it upside down and stick it in the overhead bin.  May have to curl up the brim on each side a little. Try to cushion it with  your coat.

Only if it is crushable!  Some folks don't care about others stuff!

I don't care to fly anymore, but when I did, I always wore my hat.  If I napped, I put it in my lap.

Have worn my hat on a plane many times.

Just wear it or hold in your lap.

If not that. A good hat carry case. But I always just wore it.

Don't put it in the overhead bin unless it is in a sturdy hat box.  More than once I have seen items move in the overhead bins.

You can pick up a good travel case at most western stores.

I carried mine on my lap. I wore it in and out of the plane. No problem. I had a Sterling silver hat band and I wasnt going to let it out of my hands.

Good luck, Pards

I find wearing a good hat is like a little force field, it gives you a little more space and courtesy as well.  Don't think I'm imagining it.  I dress western 365 days a year.
