The reason why Gene Simmons never drank or did drugs

Simmons has always been firmly against alcohol and drugs because of his mother, a Holocaust survivor who endured the horrors of a concentration camp, where many members of her family perished. “I’m her only child,” the musician shared. “I knew I had no right to hurt my mother. Life had already done enough to her.”

Gene Simmons recounted a memorable and humbling moment during his first major interview with Rolling Stone when his mother interrupted:

“When I met the Rolling Stone writer, I was very careful to cultivate the mystique of the demon. I wore all my spider and silver jewelry and my leather pants. I puffed my hair as big as it could go. With my seven-inch platform boots with silver dollar signs on them and black nail polish, I thought I was ready to project the perfect rock-and-roll image.

Then, at one point, the doorbell rang. I answered it, and there was my mother at the door with enough food to feed the world: fresh soups, veal chops, pancakes, jams, and cakes.

She insisted that the writer and I—whom she referred to as "hungry boys"—stop what we were doing and eat. She kept calling me by my Hebrew name, Chaim, and told the writer that I was a good boy. The big, bad demon was just a mama’s boy."

KISS is one of my favorite 70’s rock bands. That’s a great story, Joe. Thanks. :)

I liked a lot of Kiss’ music and still listen to it on occasion.  Never saw them live and was unimpressed by the costumes and theatrics, but that’s just personal preference.

But Gene Simmons is a narcissistic crude vulgar assbag who any mother should be ashamed of for how he treated Terry Gross during their infamous interview.

Never cared for the group, I thought their music was pretty bad except for maybe a couple tunes that I could tolerate! Never cared for that idito Simmons either! Him and that stupid tongue!

I saw them in concert and walked out. They were so hammered that it sounded like they were all playing a different song.

Glad Nugent opened. His show was great.

I never saw KISS in concert. I listened to their taped and later on, CDs.

The worst concert that a professional nationally known bad played that I walked out on was Pat Benatar when her 2nd album was released. The warm up band was Saga. They rocked the Hampton Colliseum in Virginia. Then Pat Benatar’s band came on. They sounded like they were all on Quaaludes. We walked out.
I learned later that Pat Benatar fired Saga because Saga made them look bad. I actually wrote a letter to Columbia Records, I believe, and told them Pat Benatar made Pat Benatar look bad. Saga was worth the price of admission. I never got a response.

He’s also a supporter of our military and a huge donor to child welfare and children’s health charities!  He and his family have won national and international recognition and awards for their activities in children’s affairs!

I was never a fan of his music, but I like much of what he’s done behind the scenes!

Thank you.   I've been trying to find some of his unabashedly pro-American comments, but my Google-fu has failed me today.

I think also very supportive of the Second Amendment.

He says he has never drank alcohol beyond barely tasting it. People told him you eventually aquire the taste for it but he said why would you do that?

I’ve always wondered that myself!!

When there are so many good tasting beverages out there, why “aquire a taste” for something nasty tasting??
