I just bought a used 650. Upon taking everything out of the tote it came in I found a piece that I cannot find in the manual. Not sure if it belongs with the press or if it a piece that fell into the tote from the previous owners garage.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

That’s a Lee primer gizmo . Goes in a Lee Turret or single stage press.

Not a part of the 650!

What’s really bad, I just ordered one from Lee as mine has become deformed

That would explain a lot because it came with a Lee turret and another Lee press.

thank you very much.

let’s hope I can figure out where on the Lee.

Drops in the slot in the shaft on the right side if it has one. when the lever is pushed all the way up it will seat the primer. The turret may or may not have a slot for it. I have an older turret and it does not have a slot. My single stage Lee does have the slot.

The Lee classic turret is a dandy press. I load a lot of stuff on mine. I have a D750, a D650, and the Lee. The Dillons are great presses no doubt. But if I could only have one press it would be the Lee Turret. Caliber changes are easy, and it just works!  It does have a little square plastic Rachet gizmo in the indexer. If you don’t have a spare, it will break. Order 3 or 4. They are like .50¢ each. If you have spares  you won’t need them!!!

Hey Hoss, I also have the Lee 4 Hole Turret but I have never been able to get that primer piece to stay in place. One I push the handle down and then up to seat the primer it falls out. What keeps it in place?

Thanks

A little pin that is in the shaft of the press. The hook on the primer piece drops over it. PM me your cell # and I will take som pics of mine so you can see it if you can't figure it out.

Your message option is greyed out. Might have a full file. I have the pin and it does slip over the pin but when I move the lever it pops off the pin and falls to the floor. I have to hold it to keep it in place.

Maverick,

Do you have a shell holder inserted?  If you don't have a shell holder in the press, it can pop out.  Once you insert the shell holder the primer cup goes up through the hole in the shell holder and is retained.

I have the value, four hole Lee press. From time to time the primer press piece comes out, but not often enough to worry about. I clean the whole press about once a year and have the spare plastic/nylon shaft bearings/pieces mentioned. For me the Lee press has been a good choice; I load .38 special and for myself only. If I had a family or multiple shooters to load for I'd opt for a Dillon.

yes, I mainly use the press for my 45-70 loads and the shell holder is in place so I can deprime and then prime the shell. When I move the lever back down the piece pops out every couple of rounds. I have not been able to get it to stay in place.

I usually don't have the rod and plastic piece in to rotate the plate since I will keep it in one stage to resize, deprime and reprime the shell. I will do around 50 shells at a time and then I use a powder scoop to load powder and then move to another stage to seat all the bullets and then on to the final stage to crimp them.

Make sure you remove the shell holder, then install the priming arm. Once it drops into place, reinstall the shell holder. That’s what I have to do with mine.

And, all this time I was sitting here thinking...  just get a 750!  😉  As I sit here enjoying all the issues I've avoided by using my 550s!

I have a 750. Dedicated to 38sp

a 550 loading 45-70, 38-55

Lee turret loading 32SW, 37sw, 44-40, 44 mag, 45Colt, 45-60, 30-40Krag, 7.5x55 Swiss.

If I could only have one it would be the Lee. It’s just handy. Caliber conversions are cheap and quick. I have a tool head for every caliber I load, they run $15 or so. Takes about a minute to swap out.

Mine looks exactly like that but when I start moving the lever it pops out and I just have to replace it for the next cartridge. It just doesn't want to stay hooked up on the little pin it rides on. My base doesn't look just like your though. I will get some pictures and post them on here.

There are a couple of different primer gizmos. I ordered  a new one(in Amazon) , it looks very similar to my old one but would not work. I called Lee, they fixed me up with the correct one. I bet you have the wrong one for your press

they came with the press but it is probably 10 years old. Here are pics of my press.

Here is a video of it moving up and down. It is when I am moving it back down that it jumps off the pin. I keep wondering if the piston isn't in the correct position. Guess I need to call Lee and ask them. I wonder if it should be lined up with the slot and not cocked to the side. Not sure if it can even be twisted around.

That is the Lee value turret, vs my Classic Turret. The body is slightly different. Yes the ram should line up with the slot. It also looks like the base is broken, right where the slot is. I’d call Lee, their warranty is nit as good as Dillon, but they might replace or give you a discount on a new one. If they do that, get a “Classic”.

I guess my old eyes aren't seeing where you see it broken. I will give Lee a call tomorrow and see what they advice. thanks

Good idea; I don't remove anything when I'm depriming a whole bunch of rounds; I just don't advance the turret to the next stage. Some times i forget and go too far and have to back it up. Your method would stop that.

I just went out to my reloading bench and checked my press [Lee Value press]; the primer piece on my press lines up just like the one you show in your photo. Same wear marks, lines up to the left of the groove/slot in the press frame. on the back side of the ram tube/shaft is a slot of some sort. I did not look thoroughly at that slot and that maybe where a "pin" or some kind of "something" resides to hold the primer ram in (?). Please excuse the lack of technical terms.

On my old 3 hole Lee turret, the primer piece just drops into the slot and the groove in the ram lines up with slot. The priming piece just sits there and needs to be manually flipped up to set a primer.

If it lined up with the slot, there would be nothing for the priming piece to hit against to move it up.
