Ok, here’s an odd thing. I’m a non religious guy, but I’m sick and tired of secular Christmas songs!! I want to hear Christmas carols!

Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells, etc., have nothing to do with Christmas.

My personal favorite: O Holy Night!

Atta boy, Tell.  I agree.

Except for that little drummer boy.  It's a good message but I simply can't stand it.

From the time I was 9 years old until  was 23 we lived less than 90 miles from Salt Lake City.  Mom and Dad were both very active in the Mormon church and several times a year we would drive down to visit relatives and get to watch the Tabernacle Choir practice.  Their Christmas Cantata was especially wonderful and I still compare a lot of other music to what we heard there.

I enjoy almost all Christmas music, especially traditional carols. My junior and senior years, I was in my high school choral ensemble and we would perform out many times over the course of the season, and it was always a great time. I will admit it can also make me melancholy, because a few years after we graduated, my ensemble partner was murdered. When we were out, people would always guess us to be a couple because we were so close as friends, but we were one of the few that weren't dating. At any rate, I like Christmas music.

A Wexford Carol has already been mentioned, and it is simply amazing.

I performed this in choir in college a couple of times, and always enjoyed it

Another of my favorites:

Then when it comes to "alternatives" I am a fan of Gary Hoey.

They told me, if I could play piano, I could play a harp.  Petey bought me one - a 26-string clairseach with sharping pins.  The only thing I ever learned to play with any competence was Il est ne.

I have many.

"An Old Christmas Card" by Jim Reeves is one of them.

Noel, Noel  is another.

But one of my favorites comes from a video that I really enjoy.   Apparently, this story (song) holds some truth and information

about this event can be found on the internet or Google.

Hope Y'all in enjoy..........

..........Widder. (Merry Christmas from the Widder family)

I have always wished my Grandmother had lived long enough to hear "Grandma got run over by a reindeer"      She was a feisty little women who would have loved it as much and much as I think of her when I hear it,       GW

mine too at just over 4-10 with the gravely voice of that gal on andy grifith show [she chain smoked - sometimes two at a time] she would have smiled at that one for sure ,

my mother was the nat king cole fan in our family , played his stuff all the time , my father was the wild card loving his dixie land but also keeping up with the modern stuff - he was a fan of "everybody must get stoned" for some reason , dont recall what he liked at christmas tho ,

im going to admit that this time of year from halloween to new years is my least favorite time of year , i try , i make it work , but in my past lives this was always the time of year that bad chit happened , not at all sure why , but it did , as hard as ive tried i always have moments of bad memories and sadness , so please forgive if im not quite as festive as yall here , im trying to find all the good and happiness - i do that every year , it gets me thru it all ,

I recall “The Robert Shaw Chorale” when I was a kid.  It inspired me to take choral music classes when I got to junior high!  I’d bet that most of you who have heard me sing would never guess that I had a couple of years of formal training!

When I was in those music classes, I learned, (memorized) “Il  Est Ne” in the original French!  If I had stayed in choral music, I’d have been invited to join the school’s Madrigal Choir! I didn’t know that until thirty years later when I met my music teacher at my class’ thirty year reunion!! For some reason, he remembered me and said he wasn’t surprised that I was singing and getting paid to do it!

Today, I can only remember the first line in that song, but I do remember the translation of that line. “There he lays, the devine infant,). It’s a very pretty and somewhat technical song for vocals!!

It’s what we were taught. As I said, I memorized the French, but I never learned the language.

I stand happily corrected!😎

This is one of the vivid memories of my childhood.  Probably an early influence toward my love for arrangement and harmony…

Listen on good equipment and enjoy!
