Widder, SASS #59054 Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 I have many. "An Old Christmas Card" by Jim Reeves is one of them. Noel, Noel is another. But one of my favorites comes from a video that I really enjoy. Apparently, this story (song) holds some truth and information about this event can be found on the internet or Google. Hope Y'all in enjoy.......... ..........Widder. (Merry Christmas from the Widder family) 1 2 Quote
Blackwater 53393 Posted December 9, 2024 Posted December 9, 2024 (edited) The traditionalist in me likes “Joy to the World” and “Away in a Manger” and such. The celebratory me likes “White Christmas” and “Deck the Halls” and the fun songs. The contrarian in me always goes to “A Christmas Song” by Jethro Tull. And then there’s… With all the commercialism and stuff, this puts things into perspective! Merry Christmas, Widder! And a very MERRY CHRISTMAS to ally’all!! Tell Sackett SASS 18436 Posted December 10, 2024 Posted December 10, 2024 Ok, here’s an odd thing. I’m a non religious guy, but I’m sick and tired of secular Christmas songs!! I want to hear Christmas carols! Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells, etc., have nothing to do with Christmas. My personal favorite: O Holy Night! 1 1 Quote

Frosty the Snowman, Jingle Bells, etc., have nothing to do with Christmas. Ditto! Although in small quantities they're tolerable. Carol of the Bells is pretty good and could be quasi-religious with the English lyrics telling of spreading good news "to one and all." Melody taken from a Ukrainian New Years song, itself based on much older folk music, perhaps from before the introduction of Christianity, about a prosperous New Year. I also like Silver Bells, I think just because it's nice to dance to. I'll add Good King Wenceslas, which is a Stephensmas song, not a Christmas carol. Deck the Halls is another New Years song, quite festive. I can't find the version I really like, arranged as if set in a pub, with fiddle, concertina, pennywhistle, and bodhrán. But here is a nice video with, supposedly, the original Welsh lyrics. 1 1 Quote
