I knew a few Seabees and one became a good friend after we moved to Arizona ten years ago.  He was a wonderful friend and when he died a couple of years ago I helped his wife get through the final arrangements.

She and I still go to lunch once in awhile and Mike is always the center of the meal.

Save me a place, Mike.  I'll be along one day.

A friend and employee of mine as well. Passed a couple months ago. RIP Paul, it was pleasure being your friend.

Well, there is the unofficial motto. " First we dig 'em, then we die in 'em."

My Dad.

But I think he was on Okinawa.  I can't find his cruise book to verify.

My grandpa was a mason and a seabee, he got injured pretty early in the Pacific.  He was riding in a truck that hit a mine and broke his hip when he was thrown out by the explosion.  It was at this point in the story that my grandma would shout at him that he was drunk and fell out of truck and he would turn and wink at the person he was telling the story to and say "Truth is I was drunk, but the truck still hit a mine"

He got better soon enough to help build "the city that wasn't there"
