Holli bought a pair of Earthwalker Boots back at the SASS convention in 2009 and, after 15 years of (somewhat limited) use, she has just about worn the soles off of them.  I don't have any experience with any local shoe repair places (other than one resole done at Ariat on the west coast that did not go well) so I am looking for some suggestions.

Just FYI, If I screw this up, it will not end well! :o

Anybody had this done?

Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Hoping for something close by, but I will definitely check them out.

Funny thing, my Dad wore a built up shoe from the time he was 15 due to a motorcycle accident.  Still remember going to that shop as a kid.  Long gone now, me y Dad, the shop, and it's owner, but I remember the craftsmanship.

Had my multiple pairs resoled many times by a local shoe repair business. Hopefully, you can find one.

BTW - My Earthwalkers were a special orthopedic build.

Yep, so were Holli's, on the insole, which is why I can't screw it up. :D

Have you called Tom's Shoe Repair in Clearwater on Drew St?

Place has been there since I was a kid. I don't know anything about them these days though.

I have 3 pairs of Earthwalkers and I have a higher heel in the left boot on all of them, one leg shorter than the other. Doart Shoe Shop in Escondido has done a real good job on them. Their number is 760-743-5273.

Dang!  That's only 7 miles from our place down there.  We are scheduled to be down the first week of January for 10 days.  If I don't have a local guy up here, I will drop by there and check them out.  If it check's out, we could drop them off there before we head home and just have them shipped back home.

Our next shoot after this 10 day Florida trip probably won't be until The Last Stand in early April anyway so there would be time to get it done right.  That's why I am doing some research now so I can get it done during our "Off Season" instead of "Oh, Crap!  I need to do this NOW!" like normal! :P

Thanks for the info!

Thanks to all the folks that replied, and I'm still in search of some place within 50 miles of Ground Zero (also known as D.C)< but if Tom's doesn't checkout in Clearwater, then I will likely have to do everything by mail.  I really like being able to walk into a shop and get a feel for the place.  Hard to do by mail, but such is life these days.

Thanks Again.

From the online reviews, it seems like the place got sold about a year ago and the new owner doesn't seem to understand "Customer Care", but internet reviews are what they are and need to be taken with a shot of Whiskey!

Dang, that's too bad. When I was a kid, he cobbled more than one pair of shoes/boots for the family.

Contact Earthwalker.  Even though they don't make 'em any more the resoled mine.

I thought they had completely closed down.  That would be nice if they were still around.

Do you have any contact info?  I will do that Internet thing, but would appreciate any info.

At risk of sounding snide, have you tried a Google maps search for "shoe repair near Washington, D.C." ?

I just did, and it looks like you have a bunch of places to call/visit/feel out.

No problem.   I have done that, and there are plenty.  Unfortunately, the ones I have investigated have left me feeling disappointed, or uncomfortable that they could do the job.  Some of them appear to be nothing more than "brokers" who don't actually do the work, they just send it out to someone they know to fix it.  I prefer to talk to the cobbler myself, but maybe that's just the Old Man in me coming out.  This "Box'em Up, Ship'em Out, and Wait....) is not my preferred way to do business.

I have a few more to check out, but was just hoping to get lucky and have someone say "Yes, I know a guy.  He's just across the line in PA (or WV or VA or DE) and he did a great job on my boots."  Pipe dream I know, but a guy's gotta have a dream, otherwise it's just nightmares and I seem to have more than my share of nightmares... :o

Thanks for the input.

Totally get that.  I have a place in Erwin, TN that I can walk into and talk directly with the cobbler.  I guess I'm lucky.

Here’s another option.  Buy new boots that are/look very similar.  Check out son of Sandler.  They are geared towards the mideval reenactment but have boots that look almost identical.

If it weren't for the custom insoles, it would be something to consider, but I don't mess with success, and these fit her!

I think it was last year, but I sent mine back to Earthwalker and was very happy with the job they did.

Thanks!  You are the second person to say they were still doing repairs.  I thought for sure they had closed up shop.  I will definitely reach out to them next week when the dust settles from this weeks chaos.

Do recall what the turnaround time was for the repairs?  We have about a 2 1/2 month gap in our shooting schedule from mid-January until early April and that would be my target time frame.

This is what I have been able to find.  Let me know if it is correct, I was going to try and contact them after we return from our trip in January.

Steffon is the name of the owner if memory serves, he is the guy that made my wife's boots.

Call VanDyke and Bacon in Baltimore County, they have plenty of reliable resources.
