Eyesa Horg Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 She ran pretty good after a little warm up. Wonder how long it had been sitting there. Interior looked decent! 2 Quote

Dapper Dave Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 That was incredible. Must have been a static display for years, and someone decided the old girl needed some love. Parts are available, apparently. Now...where to find some new wings. I really hope they get her airworthy - she needs to fly again, just listen to her hum. 2 2 Quote

Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 I listened to an awful lot of reasons why I'll never go up in that bird. There was one at Planes of Fame in Chino that sounded like a new plane, but THIS ONE sounds like death on a stick. 1 2 Quote

I heard one old gentleman years ago say that the Soviet stuff was "Strong, not pretty," made as simple an strong as possible so that a peasant fresh off the farm could work on it successfully after about 15 minutes of instruction. 2 Quote
Abilene Slim SASS 81783 Posted December 4, 2024 Posted December 4, 2024 (edited) An-2E (second use of the designation) – An Ekranoplan conversion (Russian: Ан-2Э) of an An-2P (RA-84692). The fuselage was retained and a large trapezoidal monoplane wing having extended wingtips with approx 45° dihedral, attached to the lower wing attachment points. The prototype conversion was intended to be a floatplane; however, its first public appearance was as a landplane with the standard An-2 undercarriage. Jointly developed by the Moscow Aviation Institute, MARZ (Moskovskiy Aviaremontnyy Zavod – Moscow Aircraft Overhaul Plant) and The TSZP-Saturn research institute the An-2E was also known as EA-00078. Power was supplied by the standard ASh-62IR radial engine with AV-2 propeller, but production versions were intended to be powered by automotive diesel engines of around 430 kilowatts (580 hp). Dapper Dave Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 She looks like hammered garbage now, but give them some time. Maybe a miracle can happen. Quote
