Bailey Creek,5759 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 Looking for a powder that is good for 12 Gauge and 45 colts. Not Black Powder. Quote
Chickasaw Bill SASS #70001 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 RED DOT or 700X gave the load books to the kids , so I no longer have that data at hand CB 2 Quote

Blackwater 53393 Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 (edited) Winchester 231 Clean Shot HP38 Solo 1000 All of these are from scarce to unavailable lately except Clean Shot. Scarlett has had that recently. I noticed that 231 is available at Midsouth Shooter’s Supply. Edited December 1, 2024 by Blackwater 53393 Quote
Bailey Creek,5759 Posted December 1, 2024 Author Posted December 1, 2024 I was asking for my brother. He has been using Red Dot. Hard to find. Quote

Clean Shot thru Scarlett and some other places. Forget about Solo 1000 unless it's old stock Quote

Once I run out of Clay Dot for shotgun I will be switching over to Clean Shot since it is available. I just pick it up when I go to a match like Land Run that Scarlett is going to be attending TM Quote
Lawdog Dago Dom Posted December 1, 2024 Posted December 1, 2024 We started out with Green Dot and had good results. Don’t know how available it is. Quote
Sedalia Dave Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Talked to a friend yesterday at a match that recently had a conversation with an Alliant Factory Rep. Rep stated that all of Alliant's resources have been focused on fulfilling a massive government contract. Until the government requirements were satisfied, Alliant would not be making any smokeless gun powder for the commercial market. 1 2 Quote
bgavin Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 On paper, Red Dot is wonderful. Too bad is has become Unobtanium. Quote
Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971 Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Many unobtainable powders meet the OP's description. Hodgdon's Tight Group is available and can be loaded in 45 Colts with lead bullets and also into 12-gauge shotgun shells. However, I prefer Perfect Pattern for lightly loaded shotgun shells. Alliant announced months ago it could not fulfill future orders. We are fortunate that there is some smokeless powder available to handloaders. Quote
watab kid Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 ive always shot clays or red dot - mostly the latter , im going to shoot a lot of clays soon as im running out of red dot and i have a lot of clays , but ive also shot 700x with great results , i know a lit of powders are hard to find and some near impossible or cost prohibitive , but most every shotfun powder isgreat for your handgun and pistol caliber rifle ammo , i load the exact same loads for my 45 colt revolvers as my rifle - its more about getting the OAL correct to feed in the rifle , they all feed in the revolver , all use a shotgun powder that i can load for that as well , been loading red dot for years , the clays will interchange easily for the same , i have enough to outlive me [at my age] and its great powder , no matter what anyone might say , still in sealed containers , Quote
bgavin Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 I am told that Promo is the replacement for Red Dot, and Power Pistol is the replacement for Unique. Both are new designs, burn cleaner, etc, etc and similar burn rates. Quote
Bailey Creek,5759 Posted December 2, 2024 Author Posted December 2, 2024 Thanks everyone. Will let him know. He likes red dot. He will probably look for Promo Powder. Gun Shows in our area are starting. I should say Flee Markert. Not a lot of Firearms in them anymore. Quote
