Trying to get Da Boy interested

He REALLY liked the Marlin 1894, was popping the steel at 50 yards without issue. When I told him we usually shoot rifle at 15 yards, he couldn't believe it. Also, he tired the 1873 Birds Head, and loudly proclaimed he does NOT like the birds head grip. He also skipped the shotgun since I was having some difficulty with it.
I know you guys have been doing this for decades, but for us it's brand new and we are having fun. I'm sorry for creating so many posts, I think I used up next years allotment, too.

He's an odd duck, as you can see below, it's either got to be modern or REALLY old. On the other hand, we had a great time.

Well have him runs a rifle string in under 3 seconds...that's what CAS is about...speed and accuracy.

I'd say that the best way to get him interested i to introduce him to a few of the saloon gals... but that might not be politically correct.  And CS, only lefties are in their right mind.

One thing at a time...

Nope, Speed first... Accuracy will improve with practice... but speed is harder to acquire and maintain.  (IMO).

If he likes really old, cap 'n ball revolvers might be for him.  It would not cost much to pick up one.

Yep, he like percussion sidearms.

I'm in THIS ^ crowd.

Most folks can drive a car and turn left with no issues.   But it takes some real learned skills and techniques to drive 200+ mph,

bumper to bumper, and not crash and burn.   And that speed practice is where its at (imho).

And when that young whippersnapper discovers that a good set of single action revolvers can be as fast, or faster, than that

AR style rifle, he will start entertaining hisowndangself with more interest in some good Cowboy guns.

Here's wishing you well!

The Marlin still has the bug, and it's not mine to fix, being a loaner.  I am going to get him to watch some SASS videos.

appears your having better luck in this than i had with grandchildren - im zero for six at this point and i bought all the guns when the eldest was born in anticipation , ive since sold the 410 and the rifle , im holding the revolvers for now but considering selling , good luck and best wishes in this , its fun having someone to travel and shoot with ,

He's 24 and I am unlikely to ever see grandchildren. Oh well. Let me know what wheelguns you might sell... :)
I started this little buckaroo when he was 10, with a CZ 22lr and Tasco red dot. Oddly enough, I think I still have that red dot somewhere.

It's hard to get the younger shooters interested in competing with cowboy guns vs the modern semi autos. Some may enjoy putting a few rounds downrange plinking with the cowboy guns but not full competition with them compared to competing with the modern guns. A very small percentage of all gun owners or even those who shoot occasionally actually compete at all, particularly in the action shooting sports.

I know. I am going to try to talk him into coming to the next match I attend.

I loved having grandsons #1 and #2 travel & shoot with us.  They only shot for a few years, but it was fun while it lasted.
