WTB old percussion caps

Howdy Pards,

I injured my shooting hand and am doing physical therapy. I need old caps for loading and dry firing only. That way I won't mess up my pistols.

Take the nipples out of the cylinder. Only way to prevent damaging them and the hammer face.

I've thought of that, but wondered if it was good to have the hammer slamming into the frame. Maybe a small piece of plastic hose in the channel?

I use a small.piece of vacuum hose with same I'd as nipple, cut slightly longer than nipple, slip over nipple.  Keep enough clearance for cyl to rotate.  That will cushion hammer fall.  A foot of hose will last a lifetime.

Percussion caps are so hard to find and so expensive right now no one is going to use them for dry firing.

saw a guy on GunBroker selling tins of Remington no 10s for $45 per tin.

at that price, I'll start selling my stockpile !

Many have switched out the stock cones and replaced with aftermarket.  Advertise for some on the wire and use them to practice take them out and replace when going shooting.  Bullett

Thanks for all of the posts pards, I will try the tubing. It has been years since I bought caps and didn't know they had gone up so much.

I took some small rubber hose that fit the size of the nipples and cut them a little long .

This way you can dry fire your cap guns and not damage the nipples or frame .

Works great .

You'll eventually damage the face of the hammer. Few years ago I bought an 1860 clone off GB real cheap. Found out when it arrived that the reason is was so cheap was that it had been dry fired so much that the nipples were destroyed and the hammer face was damaged. By the time I got it repaired, it was no longer a bargain.
