I've tried generic lists like that.   For me they're more trouble than they're worth.  I don't want a list with 3 dozen things I don't need on it, plus I like to put notes about an item, e.g. S/B2G3 (Safeway/Buy 2 Get 3 free).  Or the advertized price at one store so I can compare at a different store .

If you search “reusable grocery list” on Amazon there are a few.

If you search “reusable grocery list metal 1920” there are more to choose from.

I have to feed 50 people twice each month at my lodge.

My reusable method is an Excel spread sheet.

The database part contains 1419 grocery entries.
Each is cataloged by store, UPC, price per unit, etc.
The sheet flags which item and/or category is the lowest unit price.

The Menu parts of the sheet are done by plugging in the UPC code.
Each Menu has a scaling factor to scale up the recipe servings to the desired total servings.

For simplicity, I do the scaling in multiples of the number of servings in her recipe.

Each Menu is then pasted into a shopping list for printing.

Each function is an Excel Macro so it is all point and click.

My short term memory was fried during a Hospital stay.  That became my only reason for owning a "Smart Phone."  Well, that and my Sweetheart Insisted.  Smart Phones have "Notes."  I put my Grocery list in "Notes."  Reusable about a bazillion times me thinks.  But if I din't have a Smart Phone I'd be on Amazon in a Heartbeat to get one of those little Doo Dads you betcha.

Seems to me that if someone drinks beer, and likes beer, they won't need to put it on the list. They're going to pick it up every time they go to the store.
