Alpo Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 Can you pull the handle without putting money in? I know that if you can the dials won't spin and you can't win anything, but can you pull the handle? Quote

Alpo Posted November 25, 2024 Author Posted November 25, 2024 I'm watching a TV show. There's a girl in her family in Vegas, and now vacations over and they're going back home. And she is going to say goodbye to this casino employee that she considers as her bestest Vegas friend. And she wants to have a picture taken of the two of them. She would like to have them standing in front of a slot machine so she asked this other lady to take their picture. Then she says that what would really be cool would be a picture of her playing the slot. And yes she knows she's not 21 so she can't do it legally but it's just one time for the picture. So they did. And the lady they asked to take the picture happened to be an undercover agent for the gaming commission. And since the employee had knowingly let the underage girl gamble - even though she didn't win anything - casino has two choices. Either fire the employee or pay a huge freaking fine. Well that's wonderful for the plot of the TV show. But I just wondered if it would have been possible for the girl to pull the handle without putting money in. It would still look like she was gambling in the photograph, but if she didn't put any money in she wouldn't be breaking any law. Quote

Creeker, SASS #43022 Posted November 26, 2024 Posted November 26, 2024 There are a variety of "Slot Machines". There are video gaming machines which do not have "Arms" to pull; they are push button for bet increments and game play. There are still gaming machines with a "reel" activation pull arm (one armed bandits)- but these "Arms" are simply aesthetic and just act as electronic switch to begin gameplay; these arms are locked up mechanically in the absence of a wager (casino machines are expensive and people yanking on handles for no reason would break machines). So yes, to allow the handle to be pulled for the photo - a wager would have had to be made. Quote

Would you call it entrapment if the narcs sitting in the stakeout waited until the drug deal went down before they went over and arrested everybody? They just sat there and allowed it to happen. If the narc was asked to hold the money, HE would become an active participant. Quote

I came with Citibank/Diners Club back in 85 to setup their computer security system for them. We were there for 5 years and my daughter was born there in 85. My wife was 7 months pregnant when we were moved there and she was miserable. Daughter was born in July and my wife was ready to move back to Colorado. She wouldn't stick her nose out of the Alexis Resort until way after the sun went down. We spent 3 months at the Alexis while waiting on our house to close. Were you there when one of the casino's downtown decided to try something different and put pads in all the slot machines to dampen the noise. That lasted less than a week. People weren't hearing others winning and their intake of money was cut considerable. They removed the pads very quickly and went back to the noisey slot floor. Hearing the money drop and the machines going off made others spend more money. LOL TM 2 Quote

I've been coming out to Las Vegas with my Mom and Dad since I was 8 years old (my Dad loved taking advantage of the cheapo promotional airfare and hotel stays in exchange for their timeshare presentations). Couple years later - returned to make up for the honeymoon fiasco; won a couple thousand dollars on Blackjack the first night - turned in our bargain rental car, got a Mustang convertible and spent the rest of our time in Southern California. Souvenirs from LA, San Diego, Tijuana and the worst, most blistered up sunburned/ windburned faces and ears you've ever seen. Saw our hotel room once more just to shower before the flight home. Then in 1995; I was a District Manager for a clothing chain and our Corporate VP came by my office in Grand Rapids Michigan to tell me our chain was expanding into Las Vegas and ask me if I was interested. Now the day he visited; it was sleeting and snowing and had not been above single digits for about a week - so I did not have to think about it too long before I said yes. I moved out here in 1996; in 1999, when they found they were going to be grandparents - my Mom and Dad moved out to Pahrump (about 60 miles outside Las Vegas) (didn't move to be closer to me, but for a grandchild? Immediately packed and on the plane), my daughter was born here in 2000. We opened our gunshop in 2001 in Pahrump https://www.emmaleesguns.com/ I have seen a lot of changes in Las Vegas since I was a kid - some good; some not. But I love it here and can't think of too many other places that I would prefer. Edited November 26, 2024 by Creeker, SASS #43022 Quote

But I love it here and can't think of too many other places that I would prefer. We lived there 5 years and saw my parents fly in to Vegas 11 times. LOL They didn't stay with us either. So you know exactly why they came, same as yours. When we moved to TN we didn't see them once in the 5 years there except when we drove over to OKC. Vegas was an interesting place. We knew right off that we couldn't get addicted to the casinos so didn't go there except when family or friends came in and we took them the first night and then said they were on their own the rest of the visit. We did go to some of the shows but they got so expensive we quit doing that as well. We bought a house just west of the airport that consisted of 2 acres so we could keep our horse at home. About 6 months after we sold it and moved to Indiana for the job the house was bought by the city and it is now the highway that runs down there. We got thrown out of a few casinos because we had the baby with us and they didn't allow kids in them. Kinda crazy because no new born could pull the slot machine handle. LOL I was the Data Security Director for Citibank and responsible for getting data security installed and running while there. They are the reason they are called The Lakes, NV. They didn't want to be known as having the data center in Las Vegas. I also started the Las Vegas Birddog Club (NSTRA) while there. It was going strong when I left. Not sure if it is still active or not since we left in 90. We held our fieldtrials up at the base of Mount Evans. In fact we had to go through a special assessment by BLM before they would allow us to put our trials on since we were using a non-native bird to Nevada. They came to the determination that the quail could not survive in the area because they needed moisture to be able to produce and Vegas was to dry. Problem was that the birds that did survive our trials ended up nesting near the creeks and there was enough moisture in the air from the running creeks they were able to reproduce. So I was guilty of bringing in the Bobwhite Quail to the Las Vegas area and since they were not native and they didn't have a season on them you could hunt them at any time during the year. They were flourishing in the area with dozens of coveys of birds flying around. I don't know if they ever changed that either to add them to the hunting schedule. Needless to say Vegas was an interesting time. We left when our daughter turned 5 and was getting ready to go to school. If we had stayed we were looking at moving to the Blue Diamond area. TM Quote
