Category Name Change?

We have some lady shooters that can't stand the name Grand Dame for 70+ ladies. I know of one lady who refuses to move up from Lady Silver Senior.  I posted this on the TG Wire and got this reply from PaleWolf so it looks like this was discussed back in 2017.

A name change was suggested back in 2017.

As far as I know, no further action was taken.

If someone is that sensitive about a category name...

 

You'll never make everyone happy. I'll bet the name was the idea of a lady or ladies that feel into that category. So...now what? 

 

If it's that important, pole folks that shoot the category and go from there.

Oh...didn't know this was a place to conduct a survey. Perhaps it would be better to have SASS conduct a survey. That way the results might be meaningful.

"Grande Dame" (trailing "e") definition includes "respected or admired for her knowledge or experience."

 

Agree a poll of those with a concern is best, I am not one so my opinion for a name has no value.

When you start calling Ladies who shoot "Old" your life could be negatively impacted.

My guess is a "poll" on the SASS WIRE by a TERRITORIAL GOVERNOR does make sense when you read the 2017 minutes posted by the TG that states SASS would be open to a name change if given a a good replacement idea was liked by the majority of the category participants. Seems to me the TG is doing his job a lot better than some others by actually bringing his club members ideas/complaints to the light of day and looking for answers. Judging by the minutes from 2017, SASS would look at a name change idea if one was suggested and majority agreed. They didn't say they would initiate the name change or put out a poll themselves. 

Maybe this is why some TGs do the minimum they can get by with. It's not worth the disparaging comments.

 

Edit: Before I would get SASS HQ and all the other TOs involved, I would ask on here. If nobody replies, I'll know not to waste everybody else's time.

I would say "doing your job" as a TG would mean that you work with other TG's and SASS to design a survey. Doing some silly pole on the Wire is statistically silly.

I'd say if I had even 1 or 2 people mention something. Whether or not I agreed or even thought it made sense I would find an answer. A TOs job is to represent what his or her club thinks, not what he or she as an individual thinks. 

SASS had already said they would accept a name change if the majority liked it. It's been since 2017. I see no problem posting a "what do you think" on the wire. That's what I would do instead of rehashing something from 2017 and possibly waiting another 7 years. I'd get a proposal and put it to a vote to see what the majority thinks. I wouldn't criticize a TO that actually did something. Matter of fact, it matters to me what they call that category the same amount it matters to everyone else who is not in that category. Zilch.

I'd just get a feel of the Grand Dame's responses on here and Fakebook before I rehashed it like it was done in 2017. If I got zero responses between the 2 places, I'd know better how to respond.

He&*, I can get a couple people on any forum to respond to anything. Again, understanding the customer base (including how folks feel about category names), is vital to any organization. This data is best collected via a controlled mechanism. The Wire ain't that.

I gotta disagree. How are we going to know how they feel about it without asking them? I think the wire is a good spot to discuss SASS topics. Lots better than Fakebook. How many TGs on the TG wire are in the Gande Dame category. I'd want to hear from the ones in the category. But....I'd say chances of hearing from one at this point, on this thread, is unlikely now.

It's not that I'm disagreeing completely with you...I think that issues such as this are symbolic of the need for a rather in depth marketing research effort by SASS...otherwise we'll (I say this like we're actually part of the organization😄), keep spinning our wheels on a whole host of issues.

I am a TG and I posted this hoping to get a response and possible alternative names from the Ladies that shoot in this category or are eligible now or soon to be in this category. The procedure then would be to discuss it with SASS and at a TG meeting. Then if it a replacement name was offered SASS would send it to the TG’s to put it before their clubs and then vote on it.

 

Obviously that isn’t going to happen because I don’t see any lady wanting to comment on this thread now!

I think...that since it's obviously important to you, that you should look for ways to work directly with SASS to help determine what is best with regards to the category name.
