Alpo Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Is that a Canadian term? Canadian comic strip, and the older sister asks the younger sister if she would like to split a bottle of clear soda. And what it is is flavored seltzer. Now I've seen flavored seltzer for years. But I'd never heard of clear soda before. Quote
Cypress Sun Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 I saw that this morning and thought it was an odd term for a grape flavored, carbonated beverage. Also, I think it's going to be time to buy another iron. 1 1 Quote
Alpo Posted November 24, 2024 Author Posted November 24, 2024 I drink seltzer. I was at my local grocery store one day and they had it "buy one get one". I was filling up my cart. If you stack them right, you can get 24 12 packs in a buggy. But they only had 23 in the store. So I got a 12 pack of this. I figured since it was free, if I didn't like it I could afford to throw it out. But it's pretty good. They make it in several flavors. I tried most of them, and generally they all suck. Except for the grapefruit. They look just like plain water, except they have bubbles when you first pour them in a glass. And, Polar at least, doesn't have any sugar. Just a slight touch of flavoring. So I don't think it would hurt her iron. 1 Quote
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Back in ‘92, Pepsi came out with Pepsi clear. To be competitive Coke made tab clear, which was horrible. But the products were marketed side by side and folks did not pay enough attention, and that segment of the clear soda market died. Quote
Rye Miles #13621 Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 When I heard clear soda I thought Creme Soda!! Quote
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Never heard it phrased that way. We have clear sodas or sparkling water and my personal warm weather favourite, Schweppes Tonic Water with Beef Eater Gin over ice. 1 1 Quote

Alpo Posted November 24, 2024 Author Posted November 24, 2024 I thought I was kind of strange, because I drink seltzer instead of soda pop. Then I was reading about these things they had in the English channel during World War II. They were little rescue Islands, basically, for downed German pilots. They could paddle the one in their little rubber raft, and these things had bunks and blankets and dry clothes and food and a radio where you could call to have somebody come pick you up. And among the food list they had sparkling water. They didn't have still water. Sparkling water. One of THE WHITE PAGES comics, two of the employees are in the break room. Sandy is looking in the refrigerator and says, "Are we out of sparkling water?", and PJ told her to look on the bottom shelf. So I guess other people drink it instead of soda pop. Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Aren't those flavorless "flavored" seltzers also colorless? Quote
Alpo Posted November 24, 2024 Author Posted November 24, 2024 Yes. As I showed in my last picture. They look just like plain water. 1 Quote
Stump Water Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 If you drink seltzer/sparkling water check out SodaStream. If you don't add any flavoring it's much cheaper. If you make the equivalent of Sprite/7-up as I do, the cost is about the same. Either way you eliminate the bottles/cans in your trash. Quote

Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 If they ever bring out a clear soda that tastes exactly like sarsaparilla I'll buy it. Otherwise I won't bother. Quote

For some reason they put club soda in a blue bottle just like they do seltzer. A bottle with a blue label. And I accidentally have bought club soda time or two. It's salty. Quote
Smokin Gator SASS #29736 Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 I'll take the flavored sugar free seltzer (raspberry/lime) add a a big squirt of lemon juice and some Stevie to make a flavored sugar free soda. I figure it's a lot less chemicals then a regular diet or sugar free soda. Quote

S opposed to a "hint of lemon" or whatever flavor. I read a review of various flavored seltzers and one was described as having a " hint of a hint" of flavor. Alpo Posted November 25, 2024 Author Posted November 25, 2024 I have a list I keep in my phone. Foods I like. I started it with ice cream. Publix sells forty eleven different flavors of their store brand ice cream. And sometimes I would look at one and think, "yeah, I've had that before". And I had had it before. I just didn't remember that I didn't like it when I had it before. So I started the list of their ice cream flavors, rating them 1 to 10. And the list expanded. This is the Seltzer section. A couple of these brands - WD. That's Winn-Dixie, a Southeastern US grocery store chain. Their store brand was called Chek. Then they were bought by Southeastern grocers, who has a store brand SEG. My local Winn-Dixie still sold Chek and also started to carry SEG. Seltzer ************ Polar Seltzer Blue (regular) 10 Green (lime) 6 tastes like a watered-down Sprite Orange (Orange vanilla) 0 nasty Orange (Mandarin) 3 meh Pink (grapefruit) 9.5 Purple (raspberry lime) 4. Can barely taste the lime, and has the bitter aftertaste of raspberry Yellow (lemon) 5. Not really bad, but also not really good. Publix store brand blue 10 Ritz blue 10 SE Grocers Blue 8. Not as good as Polar or Ritz, but still very good. They don't sell it in as seltzer. They just call it sparkling water. UPDATE: not as much carbonation as Polar. When fresh and cold it's extremely sparkling. But if it sits there 5 or 6 hours, and gets warm, it just tastes like water. It loses its carbonation faster. Pink 6 compared to polar, it just doesn't make it WD ✓brand blue 1&2 lt, 10 WD ✓brand blue 12-pk, 9 Quote
