Blackwater 53393
This is that same grandson on the day we first met. Thought I’d add a little background to the story behind this photo. I was headed to the legendary Possum Trot for a board of directors meeting and a weekend of shooting, a hundred miles the other side of Nashville, when Schoolmarm called to let me know that Kale had decided to arrive a couple days early. It was six am. I live thirty miles to the west, (other side) of town. I turned around, went and picked up Grandma, and we arrived at the hospital at 8:15. I figured I should show ya’s what that hat looks like when it’s where it usually rides. Edited November 27 by Blackwater 53393 9
Alpo
That's a chair showing between your legs. But when I first saw that picture I thought it was the tail of a striped necktie. I was thinking "damn that's a long tie! Reaches down to his knees!!"

DocWard
A few items on display from The Clark County Heritage Center museum at a veterans fair earlier this month. A close look at the portion of the tree shows a cannon ball and other pieces imbedded, as well as spots where some had fallen out over time. The battle this was taken from is unknown, sadly, because it was not recorded when the item was donated when the museum was just an idea. The blood chit was from a Clark County resident who flew in WWII. I'm not sure what the projectile is, and neither was the curator, as it was one of those items that was donated without information. I yelled at the fool and got him to back away! That critter was bigger than the idiot’s mini SUV!! We went on a trip to Canada in 2016. Rode the “Rocky Mountaineer “ train tour from Vancouver to Calgary. Some where along the trip, I think it was in Alberta Provence, we took a bus tour to see the wild life. Eventually we saw a small harem of elk guarded by a good sized Bull, in a field along the road. The bus stopped so that we could try to get pictures through the windows. “No one is allowed to leave the bus,” quoth the guide. There were a few other vehicles stopped along the road for pictures also. One driver got out and tried to get a better angle for a picture. The bus driver/guide started yelling at him to get back in the car. The Bull was already taking note and moving to a clear lane for his charge. Fortunately the driver complied after seeing the bull lining up for his shot. The driver hopped in his car and took off fast, but not before the Bull racked his paint job. Then the Bull went up to an evergreen tree and beat the heck out of it. The guide explained that he warned the driver not so much to protect him, but the Bull. Apparently the local game regulations would require that the Bull be euthanized if he attacked a human who was not aware of the danger he posed. However, as a bus load of tourists could testify the driver had been warned. Had he made contact with the driver, the Bull would not have been euthanized. I just smile and say “They’re great!” Bless their hearts… My Appalachian born parents always referred to "the hills." Growing up, I never thought of them as "mountains" even though I had never seen the Rocky Mountains. A couple of things worth noting though, are that the Appalachians were the first real barrier to East-West travel encountered by Europeans as they settled and expanded the continent. Also, the Appalachians are far, far older than the Rockies, and are believed to have been Himalayan in size at one time! 2
Blackwater 53393
After you’ve scrambled, clambered, and hauled your stuff up a few of ‘em, those Appalachians become mountains pretty quickly!! There are a few peaks that reach above the tree line and a good number of cliffs and ledges that you don’t want to tumble over. Pretty country… I like both ranges for different reasons. 4
