Slow Gun McDuff SASS #31682 Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 I've had this little Forehand & Wadsworth Break Top revolver for many years but the mainspring was missing when I got it. Does anyone have one of these little revolvers & would be willing to share a picture of the mainspring? I had a gunsmith look at it years ago but without the pieces of the old mainspring he wasn't willing to guess about how to make a replacement. The bottom end of the mainspring doesn't go down to the bottom of the butt of the grip frame. It ends midway in the grip frame on the back strap in a recess with a pin. The top of the barrel is marked Forehand & Wadsworth, Worcester, MASS, U.S.A., PAT'D DEC. 7 86, & JAN. 11/87. It appears to be .32 caliber. Thanks. Quote

The Rainmaker, SASS #11631 Posted November 25, 2024 Posted November 25, 2024 I do have one and, if I can remember, I'll pull a grip panel off and take a pic so you can see it. Quote
H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619 Posted November 27, 2024 Posted November 27, 2024 (edited) Well, here's some pics of mine... Hope that helps. Note: Even though this gun will chamber .32 S&W Long, it is designed for .32 S&W. Using the longer round in it is NOT a good idea and can lead to frame stretching over time. One way to confirm this is that with the action open, you will notice that the extractor at its max length is too short to fully eject the Long cartridge. Good luck. Edited November 27, 2024 by H. K. Slow Gun McDuff SASS #31682 Posted December 2, 2024 Author Posted December 2, 2024 H.K. Uriah, Yep that's what mine looks like. Strange main spring, does look like it would be hard for someone to make a new one without the pieces of the old one. Thanks for the info. Slow Gun Quote
