If I didn’t already have a Ruger PC Carbine I would definitely consider a Henry Homesteader, especially after i found out they made it so it would take Glock mags.

Just for giggles, here is one of my favorite long guns…and I like it because it is ugly. :P

Yep, the new Henry Homesteader category.

I thought this was a Henry homesteader.

Don't you just love the authenticity in that shot? It's an 1894 Winchester. Angle eject. Crossbolt safety. With an Uncle Mike's sling swivel base on the magazine tube.

I do like wood furniture on most guns, but I really like my Ruger with the FDE backpacker stock from Magpul.

I have been considering a Magpul Backpacker for my PC Carbine. Did that stock reduce the weight any on yours?

Does a gun have to be good looking to function and shoot well? :o

A brother officer showed me his new SIG duty sidearm.

I was firmly of the opinion it was the one most butt ugly pistol ever had I laid my eyes upon.

Until I gripped it.

Until I shot it.

Of a sudden, butt ugly became really good looking!

😁😁😁

Life is too short to shoot ugly guns.

Yes, it's much lighter IMO.

Life is too short not to. ;)

I have pretty guns and I have ugly guns. I like every one of them. Well, except that Davis derringer that’s not worth a darn and ugly to boot.

A modern day M1 Carbine.

Good review.

I would not mind having one .

But at 900.00 I don't really need one .

Nothing I can't already do with my Lever Action Pistol Caliber Guns .

I wish Henry would bring it out in 10mm.

That $900 is what’s stopping me from getting one. I have ruled it out quite yet though.

I saw a couple of the Homesteaders at my LGS and I think they are very good looking rifles. I think the price was $925. They had a used one for $800. I asked about it and was told a guy bought it then decided he wanted an AR style gun so he exchanged it. Apparently 9mm didn’t have the juice he needed or wanted.

@Zeb Gray, #36839 Thank you for posting that image. I have been trying to think of what the Homesteader reminds me of, appearance-wise.

It's a retro rifle.  Check out the 1910 Winchester .401 Self-loading rifle.

I was thinking about the 1907.  But yeah, same thing.

Two evil black guns that I really like.

Top: Ruger PC Carbine

Bottom: Henry X .45 Colt

(nickname: Henricus Rex)

I got rid of those stupid knobs on the cheek riser on the Henry.

I prefer the M-1 (Because they wouldn't let me bring the M-2 I had in Vietnam home with me).

I bought two M-1 carbines in about 1975 and thirty or more 20 round "banana clips".  One for my pickup, one for my wife's coupe.  They were accompanied by a 25 pound package of emergency gear and two 2 1/2 gallon water jugs each.

Then maybe you can tell me what shooting one of those is like.

I have read that shooting an M2 is a piece of cake because of the lack of recoil of the 30 carbine round.

I have also read that shooting an M2 is extremely difficult because the recoil of firing under full auto is so great.

I have shot M1s, 9 mm sub guns of various types, a Thompson, and an American 180 which is a 22 long rifle sub gun. I have found that difficulty of recoil has a lot to do with rate of fire. The Ingram M10 in 45, at a thousand RPS, was quite difficult to hold. The same gun in 9 mm at 1100 was also hard. The M11, in 380, which I think was somewhere between 12 and 1500 - that was just fun. The AM 180 was quite fast, but the recoil of the round was negligible.

M-2 is a dream to shoot IF you hold yourself to five to ten shot bursts.  Biggest problem is you can squirt through 30 rounds in a blink.  I liked it, but I swapped it for an M-1928A1 Tommy gun which was traded one-for-one to a South Korean Colonel for an M-1A1 Tommy gun.  My favorite piece while I was in country.

Being a Battalion Staff Ordnance Supply officer was loaded with benefits.  Most of the captured weapons in Two Corps South came through my department to be disposed of.  ;)

I don't own anything 9mm, nor do I have any interest in doing so.
IF one is invested in 9mm, I can understand the desire for a carbine in that caliber.

I am invested in 357 and 44 mag, so I have carbines (1894 and 1873) in those calibers.

What I don't understand is the limited capacity of the Henry 9mm.
Both of my pistol caliber carbines have 10-round capacities.

They offer models which will take Glock or Sig magazines.

It’s actually an adapter that you can buy.

Check the site - if I understand, the adaptor comes with some models.

I’m pretty sure she said you can get the adapter later if you want but yes some models come with it.

My LGS said you can get the adapter later if you wish.
