Willie Miss 45
Howdy Everyone, I have a rig that was made for new Vaquero 45 colts with 4.62” barrels. I have a new model Blackhawk with the same barrel length in 357. The front sight of the Blackhawk is keeping the revolver from seating in the Vaquero holster completely. Is there a way to make it work or do I need new holsters? I hope I don’t need new holsters but if I do any recommendations would be appreciated. The guy at Indian Creek Leather seems to have gone out of business. Edited November 17, 2024 by Willie Miss 45 Added more detail and a pic of my current rig. Eliphalet R. Moderator
Most of the New Model Blackhawks were built using the .44 Magnum-sized frame. That, coupled with the tall, ramp-style front sight, makes it incompatible with holsters built for New Vaqueros, which were built on the frame of the early .357 3-screw Blackhawks. There are many excellent leather makers. One I like is Lar Fitzgerald (Michgan Rattler Leather). He can custom build you any type of holster to meet your needs. Turnaround time is excellent, and he's a SASS -shooter.
Willie Miss 45
Makes sense. Thanks for the reply. i was holding out hope that someone would know how to stretch the holster a bit. It doesn’t seem like it needs much. Maybe it needs more than I think it does.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
Those look like nice quality holsters and they are probably steel lined. If so you might bent them but you are not going to stretch them.
Willie Miss 45
I’m not sure but they very well could be steel lined. It seems I will need new holsters… not a terrible thing 🤠 thank you for the reply

DeaconKC
Bianchi used to make a holster for the Blackhawk. It is not listed in their current website.
