I checked in to the Days Inn just outside of Fort Dix and was greeted by this.   By the way, this was the second room to which I had been assigned; I refused the first one, too.

Needless to say, I didn't stay.  I'm traveling on the government's dime, but as I write this I'm in my nice, clean room at the Marriott 45-minutes away.  Of course I had to pay for it myself.

Your tax dollars at work, ladies and gentlemen.

Idiot govt people making travel arrangements that get raises by screwing you and saving a buck.

Helpful hint: Buy chocolates on your trip for all the people in the office of the Travel Nazi but don’t get any for the Travel Nazi. One of two things will happen. You’ll get better accommodations next time or the Travel Nazi will file a complaint. Take photos your motel room to the hearing.

When traveling for gov’t, ran into similar situations. You can report the lodging as unsafe/unsanitary in DTS or whatever system you use. File a request for actual cost of lodging. At most you should only pay difference.
also, ask Marriott manger if they will give you per diem rate

Depending on your agencies rules, and I highly recommend you get or find a copy of them, you may be able to plan your own travel as long as your stay within costs outlined by that policy.
I worked for 4 different county gov’t agencies over the years and one that I worked for twice. Only one was flexible and accommodating  to their employees that traveled on agency business.
In the other 3 if bribes (chocolates) didn’t work I had to get creative. Follow the rules but not follow the rules.
The agency I worked at twice changed all their policies, so it was like working at a new agency. One that was “Woke”, full of themselves and truly incompetent. Their standards were so diminished that I left the 2.5 years before I planned to for my retirement. I flat refused to travel for these idiots, but that is a story within itself and not pertinent here.

It's been many years since I travelled on Uncle Sam's dime, (in 1963) but I only had ONE place that wasn't satisfactory,  a suite shared with another officer in Washington D.C. set up by The Association of U. S. Army.  We were representatives from Utah State University, lowly ROTC Cadets, the bottom of the barrel.

The room was clean enough, well appointed,  and well kept but we didn't have any hot water and there wasn't another available room.

I called the desk at about 11:30 pm and complained.  A manager was there in short order with two bell hops and a driver and we were taken to Fort Meyers where we were treated like royalty, assigned a driver for the rest of our four day stay, and given vouchers / coupons for all manner of things.

I later heard that there were a half dozen or so other rooms that had the same problem and they settled them the same way.

BY the time we got back to SLC they had contacted the ROTC with a letter of apology and another handful of coupons.

The hotel chain, which I don't recall the name of but should, really wanted to keep the business of everyone who came there, especially the military.

Colonel Anderson, the Professor of Military Science and Tactics, wrote them a letter of thanks on our behalf.

The last time I stayed in a Days Inn was about 5 years ago! I was at a cowboy shoot. Never again! It stunk like cigarettes, the carpet was stained and the walls didn’t look too good. I had no choice but to stay it was only for one night. Luckily the bed looked okay and no bed bugs!🙄Never again! Days Inn is off my list!

Pard, I live in Colorado and the travel nazis who handle my arrangements are in New Jersey.  No one ever speaks to you.  It's all done via a government web site now.

Oooh…that truly sucks. Kind of like when I worked for Siemens. The travel people were in Dallas. I was in Sacramento. Americans were treated like red headed step children by the travel group.
The Germans got coddled and treated like kings. When we traveled together we were still treated like crap while they flew Business Class and stayed in suites we flew in the cheapest seats and stayed in the smallest rooms. Sometimes we stayed in motels while the Germans stayed in nice hotels.
I never buy or utilize products by Siemens.

Enough complaining by me.

I feel for ya, Pard.

Sounds like an HR complaint for discrimination. They should have a travel policy for all and everyone should have been given the same benefits.

It's a German company. Why would they care about American HR?

Some German companies care very well for their American employees.  They recognize that those Americans are responsible for millions of dollars of growth in North America. This is from talking repeatedly with friends who's German corporate provided them competitive pay, with much better benefits than we were getting working for domestic manufacturers.

I worked for Computer Associates and traveled a lot for them. They also had sister companies in Denmark and England that worked side by side with plus a few other countries that I worked with and we all had pretty much the same policies. Didn't see anyone get special treatment.

If that's Fremont Michigan you could have stayed at the cabin. I'm not too far away. Certainly better accommodations!
