Howdy

Shoot a renegade 45LC, have a leather wrap [ Mernickle ] on the  stock, it's now a fairly regular thing to slip on my shoulder, tried different  ways of getting it to stay put on my shoulder with no luck, it's a straight butt pad.

Don't really want to change the pad, looking for any ideas that people may have ..thanks

Glue or stitch some rough side out on the part that hits your shoulder.

I use the hard leather slip on pads from Kirkpatrick. About every 5-6 thousand rounds they get smooth so I take a really coarse wood file and rough them up a bit. Lasts about 7 months then repeat.
YMMV

If you have the Mernickle or Kirkpatrick leather butt cover that has gotten slick, folks often take a powered wire brush and lightly rough up the surface to make it non-slip.

good luck, GJ

Renegade?  Is that the one with the shotgun buttstock and factory installed recoil pad?  If it has a recoil pad does it slip if you take the leather off?

Hi Larsen

Yes the shotgun buttstock but not really the shotgun pad, I have thought of taking the leather off which I will probably do.

Would like to keep it on just looking for ideas for how to make it 'stay put, have tried roughing it up with no success.

Maybe try cutting out sections of the smooth leather to expose the buttplate...leaving enough 'strap" to keep the wrap from sliding forward??

e.g. :

I would get a piece of leather, and some 40 grit sandpaper.  Rough up the leather on the buttstock and the new piece, then glue the 2 together.  That should keep the rifle from sliding.

The link to Amazon for some reason did not show a photo.  Here it is.  This is their thinest model - 1/2"

Looked at various ways for an improvement such as another pad etc, decided to add a spacer & alter the pitch plus than put a more suitable covering over the back of the Mernickle leather cover, I probably needed that extra length that is now added...feels a lot better, the next match will see if it's a success...thanks for all your ideas ...Cheers 'Mohawk

Hey Mohawk.  Rootin Tooin here.  When my butt stock covers get smooth, I just hit them with a real ruff grade flat wide file that makes the surface ruff, and it stays on my shoulder util I need to hit again.  Just need a little elbow grease and a ruff surface flat file.  The roughest you can find with large surface teeth.

Are you ever going to make it over the pond or are you land locked below the equator.

Regards to you and your lovely wife.   RT
