I think it depends on what the show is.  Local morning news, where they convey actual information, not so much.  The professional prognosticators passionately and pompously pontificating perilous possibilities, pointing out potential problems to a perplexed populous, on the other hand, do a lot of hand waving and hand wringing.

I cannot watch these people on TV flipping their hands around excessively. My wife talks with her hands, but nothing like these people on TV. Their movements are so exaggerated and I sometimes wonder if there isn’t a hand motion competition with these talking heads.

Yea good observation, I agree it’s mostly the political pundits waving their hands all over the place!🙄

According to several advertisements I have seen on tv recently, these sudden uncontrollable movements can be a side effect of many mental health medications. So there is that:P

The hand movements I’m seeing by the talking heads are not side effects because they all do it!

Studio lighting may cause retardation and a form of near controllable palsy. Or so I’ve been told.

yes i have - thats always bugged me too , now when i first opened this i was expecting a comment about the signers they caption in a lot of news items , sometimes they are very animated .......i dont remember those in my past that sign being like that ,

my mother signed because my maternal great grandmother was deaf and had a cadre of friends that got together every week to "talk" sign , ive always felt i got cheated because my mother didnt teach me to sign and her parents wouldnt teach me german , all because of the stigmas of those times , both would have been good to know in my life

I'm not Italian, but when I was out on a missile site, we would signal with our hands toward the sky, just in case a Russian spy satellite might be overhead!
