Rye Miles #13621 Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 Have you noticed all the talking heads on news shows using their hands more than normal? https://duckduckgo.com/?t=h_&q=people+talking+with+their+hands&iax=videos&iai=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D4_gbYySfd48&ia=videos 1 Quote
Subdeacon Joe Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 I think it depends on what the show is. Local morning news, where they convey actual information, not so much. The professional prognosticators passionately and pompously pontificating perilous possibilities, pointing out potential problems to a perplexed populous, on the other hand, do a lot of hand waving and hand wringing. 3 3 Quote
Pat Riot Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 I cannot watch these people on TV flipping their hands around excessively. My wife talks with her hands, but nothing like these people on TV. Their movements are so exaggerated and I sometimes wonder if there isn’t a hand motion competition with these talking heads. 2 Quote

Yea good observation, I agree it’s mostly the political pundits waving their hands all over the place!🙄 1 Quote

Gateway Kid SASS# 70038 Life Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 According to several advertisements I have seen on tv recently, these sudden uncontrollable movements can be a side effect of many mental health medications. So there is that Regards Gateway Kid 3 Quote

Forty Rod SASS 3935 Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 My Mom's family were Italian, but I never watch TV so I haven't noticed. Dad used to say Mom couldn't say "Hi" with her hands in her pockets. 3 Quote

Bailey Creek,5759 Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 Camalla Harris does that a lot. I think it's so you will pay attention to their hands. And not what they are saying. 2 Quote

watab kid Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 yes i have - thats always bugged me too , now when i first opened this i was expecting a comment about the signers they caption in a lot of news items , sometimes they are very animated .......i dont remember those in my past that sign being like that , my mother signed because my maternal great grandmother was deaf and had a cadre of friends that got together every week to "talk" sign , ive always felt i got cheated because my mother didnt teach me to sign and her parents wouldnt teach me german , all because of the stigmas of those times , both would have been good to know in my life 1 Quote
Trailrider #896 Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 I'm not Italian, but when I was out on a missile site, we would signal with our hands toward the sky, just in case a Russian spy satellite might be overhead! Quote
